Yeah, it's over...at least this part. I had my first IVF egg retrieval this morning and it went great. I was very nervous up to this point, but it was so quick. I've been perfectly awake since then, no nauseau or pain. My RE collected 6 eggs and will probably transfer on day 3. I was sorta bummed that there weren't more eggs since I've been reading that some women produce lots more, but my RE said he was happy with six. He does ICSI and assisted hatching on all. We are awaiting a phone call to let us know how our embies are progressing. I start vaginal cream progesterone tonight..woo hoo...no more shots for now...
6 is great especially if you are having ICSI done i had 5 eggs at ER and now im pregnant so dont worry about the number of eggs all you need is one good one and in my case we put back 3 good ones and it worked...wishing you goodluck on your ET which is very easy and hopefully a BFP at the end!
I've seen 1 egg develop into 1 blastocyst, resulting in an ongoing pregnancy. Rare, but it can work. Compared to that, six eggs is fantastic.
The ideal to optimize the fresh cycle is in the 10 to 20 range. Above that, pregnancy rates can decrease (depending on the protocol) and complications can arise (OHSS gets more frequent with more follicles).
Thanks for your responses, girls. We got a call today and our RE injected 5 of the 6 eggs and all 5 fertilized. Yeah! So now we are just waiting for our 3 day transfer on Friday.
Great news, Lauri! You're proving its quality, not quantity that counts!! Congratulations and best of luck with your ET, looking forward to seeing your results. Think PMA, PMA, PMA and baby glue! really, tell your dr. to be sure to use the glue if he/she has a good sense of humor, I'm convinced it helps
