Newbie Going Mad With The 2WW

Post by PebblesUK »

Hello, I posted this on the newbie's board but just read that not may people visit that so am posting here too!,

We are new to IVF and at the moment feel pretty alone. We had ET last Tuesday (24 June) 2 put back on day 3 both grade 1. I hate this waiting, due to to PT next Thursday (13 July). I am so tired (weather has been really hot and I'm also diabetic), my breasts are so tender (period could be coming), I'm having terrible mood swings (show me someone who doesn't when undergoing IVF). The days are going so slowly, this waiting can be quite depressing. Anyone got any advice on how to get through this next week? My husband works nights so is asleep all day, gets up then goes to work 6 nights out of 7 so am feeling pretty lonely. Would be nice to be able to think of something else but that seems impossible.

I know there is light at the end of the tunnel and reading your stories on here has been really encouraging. I know if it doesn't work then now is not the right time. It is hard to remain positive as that's quite a long way to fall from if the result is negative. I also know I'm thinking too much!

Hi Pebbles. Yes, it is a tough 2 weeks and the whole experience is such a roller coaster anyway. I know it's easier said than done, but find ways to distract yourself and keep busy. I actually was in the process of adoption when I decided to try IVF ONE time only. So during my whole process & the 2ww I was still focusing on adoption. I think that helped me mentally and took off the stress, pressure and everything from my mind & body. And ultimately I believe that played a major role in my success (and now pregnant with twins).

I used to hate it when people said "relax, calm down, don't worry about it, etc". But I think there's truth (and documented studies) that show stress & worry can play a factor in our infertility (obviously a lot of medical things too for some people though).

So try not to worry or stress about it, keep yourself busy, stay positive and happy....find things that help you do that. Also, rely on any support group you have like friends or family that know what you are going through, or message boards like this.

Also, I knew I would be disappointed if it didn't work, so I looked at the 2ww wait as a "fun optimistic time". Once it was over, my whole IVF experience would be done. And it didn't want it to end...I like the hopeful feelings I had going through the process. So that also made the 2ww manageable for me.

Good luck to you! I really hope you get a positive result and you get to share that with us!

Hey Pebbles:
I am also in my 2 ww. I had ER on 6/21 and had a 5 day transfer with 1 blastocyst and 2 compacted embryos. My first test was suppose to be on 7/4 but due to the holiday the office was closed so I will be going 7/6. Very nervous. I've been trying to keep busy and time has gone by pretty quickly, but now the time is coming when I would actually be starting my period and things are getting worse. I know that pregnancy symptoms are very similar to period symptoms but when you've been working at this for as long as any of us have... I also have been really tired and peeing a lot, so that's a good sign, right? :) So, if you would like someone to talk to please write me with any questions or comments...

Thanks Kristi and Shelle. I am really positive it's just like everyone else I am so scared if it doesn't work, need to be a little realistic. Think a little bit of retail therapy may help!

Good luck with the test Shelle fingers (and legs) crossed!
