Starting Lupron

Post by Mazy++ »

Hi All,
I'm new to posting on this board, although I've been reading it for a long time!!!

I'm finally going to start IVF and so I'm going to begin Lupron shots this Thursday. I'm a little worried about side effects, the nurse told me my skin and hair would dry out...has anyone else experienced this? Does it go back to "normal" when you stop the shots?

Just starting on this journey so ALL advice is SO helpful, I can't seem to get much info from my clinic.
Thank you sooo much! :D

I'm 41 and my husband is 43, this is our first try, and there are not previous children.

No side effects

Post by samandaw1 »

I have been on Luprin for two weeks now and have had zero side effects. It really is an easy shot although scary at first. Make sure you get a good pinch. I started in the stomach and moved to the leg. Either place is not bad but leg is kinda easier. Icing it also helps. Again, the needle is so small it does not hurt.

Talking with others, most do not get side effects. Just a bit tired but it could be due to all the appointments and the thinking that surrounds IVF.

Good luck.

Starting Lupron

Post by Mazy++ »

Hi Sam,
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly!!! I really appreciate the support. I have so many questions going round and round in my head, I didn't think it would be this way! I'm so glad to hear you are doing well on it and not having side effects. It is so helpful to talk with others, I don't have any friends that are facing IVF, they are either not having children, or have been pregnant naturally.
Thank you again,
Mazy

I am new also

I agree. I am probably not a great resource as this is my first time and just going through it as well. I had tons of questions that I did not want to ask doctors. Mine is great but I wanted to talk with females who went through it so I could really understand all that is invovled.

I did not know anyone directly but a called a few people that were friends of friends. I am finding that the most helpful as they were wlaking me through it (interms I understand) step by step. If you have any questions I can try to answer them the best I can.

Good luck, and again, compared to the others Luprin is a walk in the park (not to say the others are so bad)

I did't even have marks on my belly where I gave the shot--couldn't see a thing!

And no pain in those at all!

Thank You!

Thank you so much for your reply! It's the side effects of the meds which concern me. I just like to know in advance why I may be feeling or acting differently, moody, depressed, tired, bloated...etc! I'm glad to hear you haven't had any problems.
Thank you again for responding to me.

Hi Mazy-
I had hot flashes, but other than that, not really anything. My hair and skin didn't dry out and It tends to, so I don't think that should be a problem. I thought the lupron was the easiest out of the whole process. Good luck!!

lupron

Post by racquel »

Hi MZ - I agree Lupron isn't bad at all - you can expect to feel bloated and just overall PMS on steroids through out the process but it's all worth it! Don't be afraid to ask any questions - this is a great, experienced group and not shy to share advice :)

I thought I would remember every symptom every step of the way and realize now I should have kept a better journal, can hardly remember the individual meds and their side effects now! Geez I thought I would remember every ache and pain but it fades away...

P.S. I'm a bit of a wuss - can't say the shots don't hurt, but they're just not as bad as you imagine they will be :)

Good luck! -racquel

Hello Mazy :o ,
I am on the pills now and I am starting my Lupron injections on Friday, so looks like we are only a day apart with our cycles. :wink: My nurse has not told me about the dry skin problems, she only mentioned some headaches, moodiness and breast tenderness. This is my first one too and there are no previous children as well. I am 32 and my DH is 42. We are having a severe male problem. Good luck with everything, this will be an adventure!

So Encouraging!

Post by Mazy++ »

Thank you again to everyone writing back to my request! It is so reassuring to me to have this kind of support - and quick answers! Lola, we are starting just one day apart so I hope we can stay in touch over this journey. The emotional aspects of this are new to me, I really did not expect to feel sort of dissapointed at having to do it while at the same time so grateful to have this possibility. My husband is very supportive but having others that are going through the same thing is so helpful to me, like a reality check that the feelings I'm having aren't crazy or anything. If anyone else has had similar experiences, please write
Thanks again.

Almost done with lupren

Post by samandaw1 »

Just wanted to let you know that I am 16 days in on lupren with little side effects. Here they are...breats got bigger (but went down in size as well, depending on the day) Some moodiness butnot severe and bloating. Slight cramping as well. In all honesty everything is tolerable and I am a whimp. There were no side effects that were dibiliating at all. At least for me.

SHots get easy and this is coming from someone who had to go to therapy to work through my fear of needles. Who whould have thought. I am not sure if my IVF will be successful (going through retrieval in two days) but would do it over again if I HAD to (lets hope I do not)

Good Luck

Hello Mazy,
I am so glad you have responded, we definitely have to stay in touch! :lol: My retrieval is scheduled for somewhere between August 21st-24th. I just received my lupron and follistim injections via Fedex yesterday. I am actually very excited to do this, because finally there is a solution to our problem and a new hope after 2 years of trying. But at the same time, I am ready for every outcome and I know this can be a long journey! :roll: My hubby is very supportive and it makes our relationship even more special. :oops: Well I will write soon again, good luck with our first lupron shot tomorrow! :D
