Artificial Insemination with husbands sperm?

Post by staceycat7 »

We are debating trying this however the problem lies within him not me. He had a vasectomy & then a reversal but still no sperm are coming out. So my question is can they retrieve his sperm (maybe with ICSI) and then inseminate me? We cannot afford IVF....not covered by insurance. Someone please help we are desperate.

Hi Staceycat (Great name !) - Welcome to the Site !

Sperm can be retrieved directly from the testes (ie. with some sort of syringe) then used for IUI, IVF or ICSI. For IUI (intra-uterine inseminatoin) the sperm needs to be in pretty decent condition and a decent count. If IUI is a no go, IVF is the next stage - where the sperm and the egg are left together to get on with it. ICSI is used where the sperm is of a lower quality, and here a single sperm is actually injected into an egg. ICSI is the most expensive treatment.

IUI will be the cheapest. You'd have to pay for the extraction of the sperm too (can't remember what the procedure's called).

Hi,

Thank you! This has been so stressful. When the reversal was done the doctor saw sperm but after analysis says there is none. Dead or alive. Going for a consultation October 11th & hope for some helpful info. We cannot afford ivf so I'm sure we cannot afford the icsi. I hope we can extract his sperm & do insemination. How do all these people afford these things????

We have had iui with donor sperm my hubby has no sperm at all

It's cost us approx £700 each go, to be honest we wouldn't of been able to afford it, but 12 months ago my dad died and we were left money his house and car so are using my dad's money. he would like to know that we aren't wasting it, although it feels that way after the 2 fails we have had now.

I honestly dont know how we would have done it, mind you dh's parent's have offered to pay next go after that god knows??? As if we fail 3 times it will be icsi/ivf which is around £4000- £4500. Not only do we have emotional issues ttc but we have financial issues too, so un far huh???

we are all here in the same boat though! x x Hugs to you x x

When are you hoping to start tmt??? x x

Hi Stacey ... As Nicola says, it's pretty unfair that we have to worry about the £s too .. I hope your consultation goes well, and you find a way forward.

Hi I am new to this site so ignore me if I am wrong but we have just had our first attempt at IUI today and this was through the NHS. Also have been offered one try at IVF in May.

Good luck

Depends on you p/code in the UK, I know some ppl who had iui free, and some like me have to pay. Sad but true.

We are using Donor so have to pay extra for sperm and the hfea fee's.

Hi Everyone,
My husband had a reversal last February. His first count was ZERO, his second he had 3 swimmers, then 100,000, then 10,000 so obviously they are not that effective. We just had our first found of IVF with ISCI - no success. I think we may try again in December. IVF is around 10,000 and ISCI is around 3,800. This is not a cheap process and it does feel like a waist of money when you have no results.

Keep in touch via this board on how things are going for you all.

Hi to you all!
This is my 1st time here & I'm so delighted to be able to read some storiesI am looking for some information actually too.I am 25 & my Fiancee is 38.He had a vasectomy 12 years ago after the breakdown of his 1st marriage. We are together 8 years & we want to have a baby.We went to the hospital to enquire about a reversal but were told after 12 years its unlikely anything would happen. So we were told IUI is the best option for us.My partner has had all his X-Rays & blood tests, now we have an appointment for the both of us on Thursday.I think they are going to speak to us about prices & whatever but I am a bit nervous.I don't know what to expect. Will they give me an injection,tests.etc.. on this appointment?
I never expected to be having a baby this way but hey,I love him to bits & will do whatever it takes to have a baby with him.He is afraid I'm going to leave him if this doesn't work, but that's not going to happen. We will hopefully get there in the end.

Hope ye are all well? And good luck to each & everyone of you
