Egg Retrieval

Post by Kelly72 »

I am having my ER done on Mon or Tues, and a little scared. I have heard from some it is not bad at all and other it really hurts. I know I am doing it for a good cause.

My Dr.'s office does it right there in their office and you are awake for it. They give you Xanax and Dilated, so I am sure I will be a little tired...

Does anyone have good ER experiences you can share with me to boost my nervousness?

Thanks.

I just had my ER last Friday and it was a breeze. They sedate you and I have to say it was kind of nice...You do feel some pulling but to be honest I don't remember any pain at all. I was actually laughing with the doc doing the procedure about enjoying the little cocktail they gave me. I have a 22 month old at home and knew I was getting some rest afterwards; so again, a treat for me and no pain. You will be fine. I'd do it again without thinking twice about it.

Just did my ER

Post by samandaw1 »

I was completely under and loved it. It made me not nervous at all because I would not remember a thing. My husband was right there and said the procedue looked pretty easy although I woke up to say ouch a few times but do not have a memory of that.

I did think the IV hurt more than I thought until they put the knock out medication in it. I was told it would feel like a blood draw but it hurt more than that.

The whole day I was a bit tired but certainly not out of it. I had cramping but managable. A bit worse than a period but not intolerable.

I also went through a "trail" implantation so if you have not done that, I am here to say that is not painful either. It is a bit uncomfortable but i cn compare it to a pap smear. A pap smear hurt more and a bit more invasive than the implantation.

Hope this helps. Really there is no pain involved. I was very scared and th doctor told me the injections I was going through were much harder than any of the processes at the doctors office

Hi There,

I wasn't put under for mine I was awake but its not as bad as some people make out. I mean they burst the sac to get the eggs out and you do feel it but its only a small amount. I think I had a needle if I can remember just to relax me but I was still awake and talking to the nurses.

Good Luck.

I was under and didn't feel a thing. Afterwards there was a little discomfort but they gave me some demerol and all was good again. The hardest thing about this whole procedure (IVF) is when they do the transfer and you have to have a full bladder w/out going to the bathroom.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all the support. I saw my Dr. this am, and my eggs are growing slower than expected, so now ER will be Thurs or Friday.

I will be awake. I will take Zanax two hours before I go in, then they will give me Diloted (pain killer) and then they also give me a Local. They say on a scale of 1-10 most women tell them between a 3-4. I don't know why I am so nervous, I just rather be put out, then I would not know what is going on...

Anyhow, I do have 11-12 eggs, so I am happy about that!

Hi Everyone!

My ER is tomorrow, Thursday the 3rd @ 12noon. Took my Trigger shot last night (well two of them) and now I am ready to get these little things out and fertilized. We are doing ICSI due to my DH's Sperm Mobility, so I am hopeful for good fertilization!

Thanks for everyone's advice and thoughts!

Just wanted to let everyone know ER was fine. We got 11 eggs, so we where all thrilled with that! ER itself was not totally pain free, but was fine. I am now home watching soaps and eating everthing in site! All in all it has been a good day! Now just waiting for tomorrow to see how many fertalized. We are doing ICSI, so we are hoping for the best. Thanks for all for the support.
