Test results officially back... and a couple of questions

Post by JenBowes »

Hey gals!

So we had our consult with our RE yesterday after all the tests have been done and he told us what I already had figured out. All of our test results came back wonderfully so we're officially diagnosed as having unexplained infertility. He actually called us an enigma yesterday. lol We must be really screwed up to be a couple whos been together for 9 years now, never really used protection  , and have only been pregnant (and m/c) once. I tried to say we're good at not doing it around OV time, but hes not buying that. LOL He did say he was glad we came in now and not when I'm older, and he feels good that we should get pregnant soon. So heres my questions finally... lol Ok so the game plan is this. Its too late to start clomid for this cycle, so this will be a natural cycle, then 2 months of trying with clomid. If still nothing then, then maybe doing a lap, then the injectible shots and IUI, finally followed by IVF if still not pg. First of all, does that sound like a normal game plan to start with? And if we have nothing wrong medically that we can see, is a lap really neccessary?

hugs!
Jen

Hi Jen

I think that everyone has different plans and I'm not sure there's a wrong or right.
Over here (UK) I was put on clomid for 6 months. It made me ovulate but didn't get pregnant. I would have thought 2 months isn't quite long enough to give it a good chance. I have heard of many people getting pregnant on the 3rd go, maybe its really got into their systems then.

My doctor put me on injectables (menopur) after clomid and I got pregnant on the third go naturally. One of the doctors said I should do IUI but because my sister did the injectables and got pregnant naturally I wanted to do that...........and it worked. It might save you some money too. Or if you do IUI, try naturally at the same time.

I'm going to tell you something that may have made a difference the month I got pregnant................don't underestimate the amount of times you should 'try' if you know what I mean. I think there were many reasons why it worked for us this month.....I'd given up my job, I'd started acupuncture...........but my husband reckons its cos we tried every day for about 6 or 7 days! Zita West does say if people have more sex, it increases their chances! And it should be before and after you ovulate. This particular month we tried for 2 days after ovulation as well.

good luck
love terri
p.s I was reluctant to have a lap too.

thanks for your quick reply! I did ask our RE about BDing as you do hear so many different opinions on what to do. Every day, every other day, wait 36 hours, blah blah blah. He told us with him having a great SA, that BDing every day is fine for us... so let the good times roll!!! hehehe We did BD 4 days straight last time, but I plan on increasing that this month. It would be so great to get pg naturally!!!!!!! I am a seasonal employee and I was just furloughed last week, so I'm really happy to be home now and baby is number 1 priority now! Its nice not having to worry about work right now...

and if anyone can give me some insight to a lap.. im going to start researching it more now as well :)

Hey Jen,

You sound just like me. We had unexplained fertility and our doctors gave us the same game plan. When we got past the 4th IUI, 1 with clomid and a miscarriage we decided to change doctors. This doctor that I have now wanted to do a lap as well. I didn't think I needed it but said o.k. lets get it over with. Well, it turned out I had stage 3 endo. but I never had any symptoms. He cleaned/treated it and now I am waiting for preg. test results. But I just wanted you to know that there are many options. I just wish I would have done the lap. first cause I feel like we wasted months in between. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!!!! :D G

This is why I'm glad I posted. Great info from people who know exactly what I'm talking about.

Jen,

Seems as though I have a similar story to you AND gmd. I have been having unprotected sex for about 18 years (2 different partners) and got pregnant and miscarried only once in that whole time. About 12 years into it - I started investigating the cause. I did the regular tests - checking to see if the tubes were blocked...blood tests to see if I was ovulating etc etc. Nothing showed. So the next step was a lap. I was excited to do it because at long last I might get an answer. Sure enough I was diagnosed with endometriosis. The doctor burned off what he could. I ended up taking a break from this infertility thing - and ended up getting pregnant naturally about 2 years later - ending in a miscarriage early on. First try with IVF about a year after that - and we are successful!

Long story short - I think a lap is a great thing to do because it gives you a chance to have more answers and not drag things out. It's not painful and recovery time is minimal - I was back to work in about 2 days - but I felt I could have worked right away. Of course, any surgery is scarey but - then again - everything we've been through - it's a piece of cake.

Good luck!!!

Go for the lap. I was pretty freaked out, but it was nothing at all! I put it off for 2 years and my fertility doc was adamant that she wouldn't try IVF without it. Turns out I am healthy (no endometriosis), so probably wasn't necessary, but my doc is right, it is alot of money to gamble without a lap first.

Now, if they need to do a hysteroscopy that is a different story....OUCH!!!!

Thank you all for easing my worries about the lap. :D Do they knock you out with general anesthesia?

Yep, I didn't remember a thing. The worst part was later that day because they pump your abdomen up with gas to see everything. So it took a day or two for all of the gas to go away. If a lap. is part of your game plan eventually and you don't want to waste any more time then I would say go for it as soon as you can. I was scared because I never had surgery before but it wasn't that bad. I'm glad I had it done. I just wish I would had done it a lot sooner. :D G
