Hi everyone. I was wondering if someone could help me with this. Once they place the embys into your uterus...why does it take two weeks to determine via a test if you are pregnant. I ask because if someone were to get preggo naturally, you can test as early as 10dpo on sensitive tests. The emby starts to emit hormones that can be picked up that early. I would think since the embys are already 3 or five days old, why couldn't you test for pregnancy after one week? Are they worried about false positives? If somone could shed some light...that would be great!
i think it could be to avoid a false positive because with IVF you do a HCG trigger shot that remains in your body for along time. This is what i would think it is...goodluck!
my transfer was on saturday and my first test will be this coming Monday. just over a week... Ithink the two weeks refers to the retrieval date, also the fertilization date. At least for me it does. You are totally write about the HCG levels. they can be detected earlier....
Many clinics vary how long they wait before testing, and also take into consideration things like how old the embryos were when put back. However in general most clinics wait 2 weeks from date of transfer to date of testing. They need to make sure a) the test detects HCG from the embryos not the trigger shot and b) the embryos have time to implant (which can take a while). I'm sure there are other reasons also besides this but I don't know them!!!
I know the waiting is a pain, but there are many people on here who have tested early, got a negative but gone on to have a positive result on their official test date, so waiting a few extra days can help!
Very best of luck!

I think the embryos can float about for a good few days before implantation, it is only after implantation has occurred that the HCG hormone will be released. In the UK the earliest you can do a HPT for a natural cycle is now 4 days before your AF is due. At my clinic they make you wait until 16 days after ET. I was doing the tests about a week after ET and only got a positive 10 days after.
Hope this helps, I'm sure Ghost will fill us in with all the facts! lol

The HPT can often beat the lab test by a few days. As said before, the HPT is a test for hCG, and in most IVF cycles that is the same hormone used to "trigger ovulation" (final oocyte maturation). So you don't want to try the test too early, or you will get a false positive from that.
Hi how soon do you think i can do a hpt . I am 4dp6dt I transferred 2 embies. Do you think tomorrow would be to soon to test?
Im not feeling any symptoms. I guess the only thing i feel is twinges and kinda sore in some areas. I go in for my offical test on Aug2nd I dont think I can wait. Im thinking of caving in and taking a hpt this weekend. What do you think?
It is really up to you if you want to test. I bought a batch of cheap ones off ebay and in total did about 16 tests! The thing you have to remember is how you are going to be if it is negative. My first few were negative and I was deflated even though I knew it was way too early to test.
Personally I think the weekend will be a little too soon, my first positive didn't show up till 10 days after transfer.
Best of luck

I done a HPT this morning. I figured that if it came up -ive, as it's still 6 days to my official test date Aug 3rd, i could say it was too early, and if it was +ive, then it would be a very very very nice shock.......
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the blue line came up dark blue before the test strip did....
I don't believe it, it was BFP!!!!!!
Both DH and i are still very much in shock.
Good luck to all the other testers, i prayed for you all this morning......
Take Care

Take back all i said about a BFP. I read the test wrong.
I had just shoved a test in my bag when i came away and didn't bring the instructions.
We went to CVS tonight to buy some more just to be sure and i noticed that i had read the test wrong and we didn't have a positive at all.
I had to laugh to stop myself from crying, but now it's sunk in i'm quite upset, infact we both are, we had got all excited and then had it taken away.
WELL THAT SERVES ME RIGHT FOR USING THOSE EVIL STICKS!!!!!!
We have now decided to wait till the 3rd Aug and not test ourselves again.
So i still need all your prayers and PMA as mine is a bit low at the moment.

It's so easy done - those things are a mare. i had a similar problem with an ovulation kit during my FET. After using all of them in the packet and still not being able to read the results properly, I finally went and bought a digital one!
Back to the hpts - I did 2 home hpts AFTER my test date cause the hospital test was "inconclusive" (too faint to count). Anyway BOTH were negative. I went back to hospital to retest 5 days after official date expecting a no, but amazingly it was bfp. She said my hpt result was rubbish. I wrote to the company and got a letter back saying
a) even though they say you don't necc. need to use early morning sample, you should. b) Although the test says it can detect small quantities of HCG, it doesn't always and c) although the test says it's 99.9% accurate, it's not always. In other words, they're not always as sensitive as you think.
Anyway, my point is that a negative hpt does not mean it's over. You have a way to go before test date and have every chance of a bfp still.
Keep your chin up and best of luck!

Thanks everyone for your support. I had a 6 day transfer on 7/24 so it been 6 days now. And I read somewhere that blastocysts should implant the day of transfer or the following day. What do you think? So if this is true wouldnt a test show something or im i just driving my self nuts. I have been taking it easy since the cramping on thursday. The cramping has stopped but
the area below my navel feels tender like i felt after the retrival. Has anyone felt this after there transfer. Im trying to keep my spirits up and just pray these test are wrong. I will just wait for the big day on wednesday.
Can I just say its so easy to be tempted to try a hpt but I learnt from the mistake. I tested early well just 24 hours early. I didn't think it would make all the difference. I looked at the hpt and it was negative I was gutted to say the least I couldn't stop crying that IVF hadnt worked. Well I phoned the clinic to tell them and they was not impressed. THey told me I had to test again on the next day which I didn't see much point what was 24 hours going to make. It did make all the difference becuse I was pregnant. I have a little boy now who will be 3 in feb. Please do not test early because anything is possible. Just go by the day you are given.
Thank you all for your kind words of support, we feel better today and realise that it was too soon to test, so we still hold out hope for a BFP!!!!
