Hi Val! I too am from the US, though West Coast (California) and recently have become addicted to this site. As you may have noticed, it seems like the US sites are all so negative or neurotic. The girls here are really great, positive and supportive. I'm a little over half way through my 2WW (2 week wait) on my first cycle and have found a lot of support here.

Like everyone I'm sure, it took a while for me to get the abbreviations, but there is a good site (I think it is thebabychase.com but you can search for the baby chase and it will come up) that has a cheat sheet of abbreviations (along with some inspiring success stories). Of course, some of the abbreviations are different overseas. For example, in the US they use ER for egg retrieval and here they say EC, which I think stands for egg collection. One of my favorites is that they call shots jabs. Personally I prefer the word jab because that is exactly what it is!

I can't believe you're giving yourself your shots. My dh has been giving them to me from day one and though he was nervous at first, now he is glad because it makes him feel part of the process. If he is willing, you might want to discuss it with your dh not only for the experience, but because they hurt a whole lot less in the rump - especially once you hit the progesterone shots!

Anyway, welcome and good luck on your scan tomorrow. My first scan was a neat experience. Somehow seeing all those follicies made it seem real for the first time, and was when I finally got excited about the process working. Just seeing all those eggs inside made me realize that it could actually work. Anyway, good luck and let us know how it went.
Hi everyone
I am new to this site as well but have been reading it every day for ages. Everyone is right - it is completely addictive. I am also from across the ocean, but it is a different ocean. I am from Australia. I am 33 and currently going through my first IVF cycle and was on track to have my EC around 15/9. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the positive stories coming from this site and wanted to join in. Val - it is also took me quite a while to work out what all the abbreviations meant. I wish I had known about the website - thanks for the suggestion Catherine.

I started off this cycle feeling very excited but we had our first hiccup yesterday. I had been on the nasal spray for 10 days and was due to start my gonal-F injections on Wednesday but when they took my blood test, it showed my estrogen levels were very high. A scan yesterday morning showed I have developed 2 cysts on my left ovary (I have no idea why). Now I am on a double dose of nasal spray for a week to see if that will make them go away. I have a scan next Thurs to confirm. If that works, I will probably only be delayed a couple of weeks so I will be a late SCB. If it doesn't work, I think my choices are for them to go in a pop the cysts (similar procedure to EC) or to cancel the cycle. I am feeling determined to go with the former option and hopefully it will still mean I can be an SCB with all of you. I hope you don't mind if I join. Good luck to everyone.
Kate
Kate
Welcome to the SCBs Kate, wow Australia, its surprising how worldwide this site is.........You do know now
everyone will want to know whats happening in Home & Away & Neighbours!!! (only joking)

FIngers crossed the nasel spray does the trick...

Jackie-re injections.... Im not injecting at the mo as am doing FET(frozen embryo transfer)
I had OHSS after EC(egg collection) so was advised not to have ET(embryo transfer) at that time. I did IVF with ICSI & injected Puregon-used an auto pen injector(you just load syring with drugs which hubby did, load syringe into pen and then just push pen against flesh & click)
I was advised to inject in the thigh or stomach. Thought the stomach would hurt but I think as there is more flesh(there is with me!) it was less painful.

July Ann-sorry -hes all mine!! (I wish) Stay positive & try not to worry......If you stay positive I will lend you Johnny for a couple of days!!

Good luck everyone
Sarah
xx

[Edited by SJ BROWN on 05-Sep-03 00:58]

Hi All,

Well I've been away from the computer for a couple of days as I had a wedding to go to on Weds. Seems that there are a lot more names on the Sept list now!!

My next big date is 9th Sept when I have my next scan. I keep telling my womb lining to thicken up nicely!!

I'm on 3 x day sniffing and 2 x day progynova, I go up to 3 x day tablets tomorrow. So far so good. I have another wedding to to to tommorow, my DH brother is getting married so DH has been stressing about the best man speech that he hasn't finished writing yet! This treatment thing means that my outfit is set off by a rather large handbag to carry my drugs about in, and I have to make a discreet exit to go to the loos to sniff mid day!! So far nobody has caught me. They will probably think I'm a coke head if they do!! Could make an interesting wedding story..........

I had reflexology yesterday and it completely zonked me out, so must have done some good. I slept very well last night.

Kate, I had cysts on both my "fresh" cycles, and went on to get eggs. In fact I seem to have a cyst on my left ovary pretty much all the time. My GP told me this is not unusual, and cysts come up and go down on most womens ovaries at some time or another, but most women aren't having scans all the time!! The problem arises if they start to grow quickly.

July Ann - I'm sending +ve vibes to your follies. Things can change so quickly in a cycle so I'm sure things will work out fine.

Sarah, apart from the aftertaste I don't mind the treatment too much, at least it is better than those injections!! I always thought DH stood for Darling Husband, but think Dippy Husband is probably a lot more accurate.

Val, good luck with that scan. It is pretty weird seeing your insides with everything growing, but I find it very interesting as well.

Donna, by now have you had EC? Hope it went well.

Nikola, Kat and Jackie, hope those injections aren't too painfull. I always had to do them myself as DH comes over faint just thinking about having a blood test!!

Catherine, hope you are staying nice and chilled. The 2WW is the worst part of this whole thing. Everyone tells you to relax, and you sit there thinking "I'd love to"!! I would suggest lots of chocolate and happy girlie films.

Alison, any sign of AF yet? They are always late when you want them to appear.

Di, how are you doing?

I hope that is everyone but if I'm sorry if I have missed you out.

I will be away from the computer until Sunday now, so good luck to everyone and have a good weekend.

Speak to you all soon

Karen
xx

karen
Enjoy the wedding.

Am confused? your clinic must do things different as I am already on 2 Progywotsits 3 times daily but dont have next appt until 10/09 & was told it would be blood tests? maybe they will scan as well as how do they know if lining is thiCk enough?? Oh well, Im sure they know what they are doing.....I may have got it wrong....

Am getting edgy now, keep dreaming that when I have appt 10/09 get told that tablets have not worked & FET will be cancelled........Must try not to be so negative......

Good luck & have a fab day tommorrow

Sarah
xx
Hi Sarah,

just been trying to find where I am going on multimaps and, of course, couldn't resist straying onto the message board!! This site is addictive.

At my clinic I will be having scans and blood tests on 9th Sept, but am not due for FET until about 15th Sept. They measure the womb lining from the scan so I would think that you will have one?? I will probably have another scan before the transfer.

Maybe our tablets are different strengths? I started on 2mg per day and go up to 6mg per day for the last 5 or so days.

I know it is difficult but you do have to try to keep +ve. I had a dream a few nights ago that I took a preg test (only done that about a million times!!) and it was +ve so I have decided to take that as a good omen!!

Anyway, I really am going now. I've got wack on the old fake tan before I set off. I was supposed to be leaving at 2.00pm, and it is 5 to now. Whoops. Looks like I will be late, as usual!

Karen
xx

Hi all, had my scan today and all set to start injections tomorrow. EC 17th and ET 19th all being well but I always get it put back a couple of days as I don't make many follices so I reckon EC 19th Sept. Scan next Friday to see how it's all progressing anyway so will get a better idea. Still feeling positive at this stage but will no doubt have some wobbly moments over the next couple of weeks!
Hope everyone's feeling full of PMA
Lots of love
Kat xx

Hello to all.

Hi Catherine! Great to hear from someone in the US. You're right about the US sites, negative and neurotic are both accurate descriptions. I've never posted to a forum before but the vibe on this site attracted me. Thanks for the info on babychase.com, haven't been there yet but plan to. Can't wait to hear some good news from you in a week or so.

My scan went really well today. All of my follicles are maturing nicely and I was even told I have a beautiful endometrium. It sounded a little funny to hear the nurse say that. She said she was very happy with what she saw. I go back tomorrow for another scan but now it looks like I will have my EC on Monday.

Hi Kate. Welcome. Australia has always been the country I picked when someone asks where I would go for my dream vacation. I'm an animal person and Australia sure seems to have some neat ones. Keep sniffing away those cysts. I expect to hear some good news from you next Thursday.

Karen, have fun at the wedding. Good luck with your discreet exits.

July Ann, glad to hear you are feeling better today.

Continued good luck to all.
Val
Hello All

My dh is snoring away so I couldn't sleep and decided I'd much rather find out whats been going on with you lot than listen to him!!!

Val - hope the scan goes ok today and you are all on course for EC on Monday. I shall be right behind you because I have a scan Monday and then EC on either Thurs or Fri if all is ok.

Donna - are you ok? We haven't heard from you since your EC this week! I'm thinking of you and hope all went ok.

Jackie - I too am a second timer and I also have a dh who gets off on sticking pins in me!! Charming. He really fancies himself as Dr Kovak or Dr Carter from ER! It takes him 10 mins each night to 'prepare', flicking away making sure there are no air bubbles and than laughs at me if I scream in pain (anyone reading this who hasn't started their injections, don't be put off, I only scream for effect!!). Its quite out of character, he is normally a lovely person......IVF brings out the worst in him.

Kat - good luck with your injections today (ignore my screaming comments - it doesn't hurt really!) What are you injecting?

Kate - please don't worry about your cysts too much. I had a cyst on my left ovary and I sniffed three times a day for three weeks and then it had gone. I tend to get cysts all the time, but (touch wood) nothing seems to ever come of them. Keep sniffing and I'm sure they'll disappear.

Alison - we are all waiting for AF to arrive!!! Good luck with FET.

Sarah - good luck with your FET next week too.

July Ann - I hope your PMA keeps up, be positive and those follies will grow!!

Catherine - I wish it was hot here (maybe not as hot as 115f!), but I think we are reaching the end of our summer. My favourite program on tv is Beverley Hills 90210 (how sad am I, i know!), its on Sky (satellite tv) every day - yesterday they went to Palm Springs, so I thought about you!! When is your test date, it must be quite soon??

Karen - you won't read this because you are at a wedding - hope you have fun. I'm going to try reflexology for the first time today, hope it sends me to sleep!

Sorry if I've missed anyone, but good luck to everyone whether you are sniffing, jabbing or waiting...

love nikola.xx
Hi all, in answer to your question Nikola, I am injecting 6 amps menopur, 2 injections a night of 3 powders, 1 water each. Luckily I don't mind doing them as DH is really not good with needles so I couldn't ask him to do them. I have an autoinjector which makes it easier and again for anyone who isn't injecting yet, they don't hurt really, honest! I do get a bit paranoid about getting any tiny air bubbles out though even though the nurse said they wouldn't be a problem. Have managed to talk DH into moving his next xray appt to after this cycle as I don't want to worry any of his sperm might have got zapped by an xray and not be as healthy as they could be, considering he doesn't have that many of them to start with. It's his final 'sign-off' xray after breaking his neck in Feb (2 days before EC on my 2nd cycle so we had to cancel - we are now on 4th) so he really wants to have it but he will just have to wait a couple of weeks longer. Sorry, rambled on a bit there!
Hope everyone else is feeling positive, have a nice weekend
Lots of love
Kat xx

Have to go back on monday, but looks like ec on wednesday and et on friday. feeling good and can not wait to get to the next stage. I only need one good one..

sarah looks like we are going to be on the 2 weeker together.

speak to you all soon
july ann

Hi there - thought I would just chip in - hope you dont mind - to say first , best of luck to you all. Its great you all have each other -I found it amazingly helpful when I did my first ICSI to have other guys going thru it at the sametime - people who have never done IVF (including dh's sometimes) dont REALLY understand what its REALLY like inside our heads at times!

ANYWAY - I also wanted to say hello to VAl.....Val I think you are the first person I have come across on this site whos dh is also having their sperm surgically removed (if I have understood your desciption right), is he having TESE?...if so thats what my dh had last July.

Has he had it before? If not, tell him its fine, but not to expect his "balls" (as we say here in the UK!!) to feel that great for a few days - they are basically bruised. My dh has v v v v low sperm ( we are talking single digits) because of mumps as a teenager. We did manage to retrieve some and made 3 embryos. Sadly they didnt stick tho. We'll try again in the New Year.

Cant wait to hear how you get on - good luck!!

Love to all

Cazx
Hi everyone, July Ann I'm glad to see your follies have grown, the smaller ones could grow some more before EC too. My last cycle I had 3 follies and got one egg which fertilised but sadly decided not to stick around. It's true though, you only need one and anyway I tell myself I am going for quality not quantity. Good luck for scan on Monday
Lots of love
Kat xx

July Ann

really pleased your scan went well. It only takes one!!
I might be wrong but Im sure someone (bubbly michelle I think) has posted on site that only produced 1 or 2 fertilised egg, & hey presto is now about 20 weeks pregnant.....so looking good for you...
Stay positive & lets hope we both have our frosties tucked up nice & safe by this time next week....

Take care & good luck to everyone else too......

Sarah
xx

p.s-Karen-hope you enjoyed the wedding....Did you have a couple of glasses of Champers?? My consultant did not mention alcohol so am assuming a couple of glasses are ok with Prognyva-if Im wrong let me know!! Oh well its too late anyway as I had a Baileys Glider tonight!! Only 1 so should be ok. Will stay off all bad things next week though!!(hubbys pleased this time as tmt is less invasive (last time when injecting, rumpy pumpy was well off the menu!!) Making the most of it(whoops, too much info) now as next week & after FET absolutely NO WAY JOSE!!
