Oooo, I've got the itches!!

Post by Lavender1 »

Should I be worried? For the last 4/5 days, especially towards the evening and through the night, I've been itching practically everywhere - arms, legs (lower and feet especially), back, boobs, bum. Strangely not my belly really thoguh. Is this normal, or am I a freak, or is something wrong? I'm 38+1.

hey there
i have had a bit of a think about this and i would call your midwife about this asap. It is probably absolutely fine and something is irritating you but you might just need your liver function tests checked as sometimes things slow in your gall bladder in pregnancy and this can present with itchiness.
not long to go anyways!

Kristin is right - you probably should call your midwife just to get reassurance.

I just wanted to tell you that I have heard of this before and I think it is normal. My sis-in-law had lots of itching late in her pregnancy.

Again, get the final say so from your midwife.

Not much longer for you now - GOOD LUCK!!

I would call midwife...I was told to if itching developed which I thought was strange at the time.

Probably all okay...I know stretching skin/sensitive skin would cause it.

Hi Lavendar!

On my pregnancy notes it says to call the midwife if excessive itching occurs. So, here's hoping you've given her a call and put your mind at rest!

Can't believe you're so close now!

Thanks everyone - Been to see m/w today and she's taken some bloods because of risk of Cholestasis. Apparently if they find there's a problem, they like to deliver baby early at 37/38 wks. However, the second part of the result which is the part that will really tell them if there's a problem, takes 2 weeks to come back. By then I'll be 2 days over my due date!

Being sent up to labour ward 2mrw for monitoring and will have first part of results back then. If they are all ok, m/w says it's really unlikely that my bile function is abnormal. However, if not, we talk again...?!

I'm so scared. We've come all this way. Hope I can get my Flump here safely. So sorry to sound off to you all. Parents live abroad, and friends all live far away. Sisters are here but all very matter-of-fact - don't really show emotions!!!

Thank you all so much. Luckily we're super organised so everything is ready if Flump arrives.

Been to hospital today. The preliminary bloods came back normal so it's looking good. CTG went well and just what they would expect. Lots of tightenings. Head's engaged. Midwife (taken over from my usual grump who's on hols) was fab and came up and sat with me for a while. She said with all these tightenings I should come home and s*** DF, then go for a long walk to get things started!! However, not much energy for all that - I'm shattered after my venture out to hospital today. Also I'm getting scared about it all now so am too frightened to move!!!!

We see consultant on Tues and have another growth scan (they think baby's small). Bloods may be repeated then.

Thanks everyone for all your advice and supportive words. Where would I be without you?
