Sam - Thanks for explaining the egg retrieval process, I feel more comfortable about it now. It really helps hearing it from someone who just had it done. My RE said he wasn't going to put me out completely, so I'm a little scared. Do you ice before the shot and if so how long? You will be in my thoughts and prayers!!!
Wannababy - Anything yet? I am pretty sure that AF will come tomorrow, then I start the injections the next day. I hope we are close or right on together.
Lola - Welcome!
Mia - Welcome! Glad to see someone my age, I will be 37 in November and I am not looking forward to it.
Champa - Welcome!

I ice for about four minutes. No need to do more. In fact, you do not want to stop blood flow so 4 minutes gives it the perfect numbness. I have also posted this before but I breath out a bunch of times (kinda like hyperventilating, just puffing) this has been a miracle worker for me. I think when I am doing that is tunes out the silence of the needles and puts me in my own little world. It is great!! Since I discovered that tip, I have not had any problems with injections.
Do not worry about egg retrieval, it is exciting and should not hurt. Important to be relaxed
GOod luck and wishing you lots of eggs

Hello everyone!
I see there is so many of us having the male factor. Ours was extremly low count and low motility, so they said IUIs would be a waste of time and money.
Sam --- thanks again for your advice, it really feels good to know what to expect in the next couple of days. I hope everything goes well tomorrow. Then you will have to stay in bed for at least two days, correct? I would rent some movies today and just enjoy it! Wishing you the best of best luck!!!!
Alicia --- my hubby is an MD and he explained to me that the drugs are so strong that you will not remember or feel anything. When the doctor said "not put you out completely" he probably ment "not intubate", like for a big surgery, where you have a tube down your throat and a big anesthesia machine breathing for you. You will be breathing on your own, but you will be heavily sedated. You will just fall asleep and wake up all surprised that it's all over ,,,, right Sam?
Champa --- have you started your shots already?
Good luck to you all!

I think you are right on. The retrieval has been my favorite part. It was quick, easy, painless, and exciting to finally know how many eggs you have retreived.
According to the research I have been reading, ICSI appears to give the best odds when it is a male factor. The only risk is that you can loose an egg or two due to the procedure but the ones that make it through are better odds of fertilizing. Reading the websites, it looks like IUI has often been unsuccessful in our cases. It is probably best not to waste time, money, and emotions.
Best of luck and thanks for your well wishes tomorrow. It is starting to become reality!!!!

TO answer your question I will be on bed rest for 5 days. I can only be up for shower and fixing a light meal. It seems extreme but my doctor has good statistics and I am going to listen to EVERYTHING he says.

How are you doing Samandaw? I totally agree with you and would do everything the doctor says. Do you think that you will be bored? When's the transfer scheduled?

I do think I will be bored because I will not be sick. I also for the school system so I have had the summer off so it is not like I have not relaxed. I have TIVO'd lots of shows and have not watched tv for about a month so I could watch it all this week. My husband will take a couple of days off so we will play board games. Other than that...I should be fine.
I go in tomorrow YIKES!!! Of course I had a dream all my embrios died (which if that was the case they would have called me) Nonetheless, I have an urgent call out to my embrologist asking. I am very neurotic

Champa and Lola, my estimated retrieval date is 8/23 too! My Doc does the embryo transfer 5 to 6 days later. I guess some Docs do it a couple of days sooner. I will start my injections on the 12th.
Sam --- I will be thinking of you tomorrow! I guess all of us in this group will be! I hope you have a laptop so you can stay in touch with us afterwards. We have to know every detail! You are right, maybe the longer you stay in bed the better. I know, I have been reading about ICSI a lot too and our doctor said that's the only chance for us. I have done so much research on this, I could probably teach IVF 101 class by now
That's so nice your hubby will take some time off! One positive thing I see while going through this is that it makes our relationships more special.
Mia and Champa --- looks like we are on the same schedule, maybe 1-2 days apart! I am on Lupron shots and BCP now (down regulating), starting the Follistim shots on the 11th, retrieval on the 21st or so and transfer 3 days later. And Wannababy is prety close to us to, I think. Cool!

Its good to know that all 3 of us will be going through it at the same time
I am in this due to High FSH level. Are u into IVF due to high FSH problem?
Sam - Thanks for the icing and the breathing technique advice. I will definately being doing both. Waiting on pins and needles to hear your update. Can't wait to hear the good news!
Lola - You are lucky to have an MD as a husband, especially during the IVF process. Thanks for asking him, I feel sooo much better now. My DH has low sperm motility, everything else is great. So we are doing ICSI as well.
Wannababy - Well the AF showed today! How about you? Anything yet? I have an appt in the morning and they will administer the first shots to show us and then I'm on my own. Sure hope your only a few days behind me.
This board is really growing and its so exciting that this is all our first time. I just wanted to wish everyone the best!

Shapooh--No AF for me yet. I'm thinking it should be here by the weekend, so hopefully I will start injections early next week. I think it's cool that they administer the 1st shot for you. Let me know how that goes.
Is it just me or does this seem more official now?

Champa --- there is an article that explains a lot about FSH at http://www.advancedfertility.com/day3fsh.htm I don't know much about his problem myself but you may find some interesting info on the website.
I think there is actually 5 of us having very similar IVF schedules : Wannababy, Mia, Champa, Alicia, me ... anybody else doing a retrieval in the second half of August? I am glad this board is growing and we can support each other
