Has anyone had the "Unexplained" diagnosis?

Post by Xrayem »

Just a question....has anyone else been told they have "Unexplained Infertility" and had success with IUI's or IVF? Has anyone had that diagnosis and then finally found a cause during tmt? I guess what I'm asking is this: At the moment we have only done IUI's which haven't worked. I want to start IVF to see if its a fertilisation problem or an implantation problem. God I'm so frustrated! There has to be a reason! We have been TTC for 5 years now.

Hi Em,

We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility & unfortunately 3 attempts at ICSI were unsuccessful. My DH says he doesn't want to do any further invasive treaments (ie IVF) which I would do, but I think I've convinced him to let me try Clomid, who knows it may work. We have a follow-up appt with hospital in 2 weeks to discuss recent failed cycle (April) and I'm hoping they will let me try clomid.

Good luck to you.

Hi Em

Both my partner and i were tested and the results came back as unexplained fertility. We then had 4 sessions of clomid without success and due to try IUI. We then moved to Spain where our doctor had my partner redo his test and it turned out that his mobility was low and without ICIS we would be unable to conceive. They basically did more intensive tests (like a mini olympics) on his sperm than before and that was the reason. It is so frustrating to be told that it is unexplained so i know how you are feeling.
Good luck to you

Hi Em - We have unexplained IF and I agree - it is SO frustrating. We just had a failed IVF this week and I am struggling. Our RE told us it's up to us at this point whether we want to try IVF again, another IUI, or "tryi on or own". WTF. It's so agonizing. Your question about whether anyone has learned about a specific problem after having unexplained IF is a good one. We haven't done a lap yet, so perhaps that would yield some info. Right now, I'm just sick of it all.

Hi Em,

Just wondering if you've gone for a 2nd opinion at a different clinic?

When I first started seeking fertility treatment, after doing all the tests, the 1st doc I saw said there was nothing wrong with me and DH... we went thru a couple of rounds of IUI with no success.

After a frustrating year with no success and no answers, I decided to see another doctor, and at my very 1st visit my current doc suspected that I had endo and PCOS and scheduled me for a lap straight away. During the lap he confirmed that I had severe endo and other growths in the uterus. Subsequently I tried clomid, another couple of IUIs and an IVF but were unsuccessful... I was really disappointed and felt that I was never ever going to have a baby... but we decided to give IVF (ICSI)another try, and am now 20 wks pregnant! :)

So, I'd advise u to seek a 2nd or even 3rd opinion, and don't give up hope... everyone and every case is different... :) your time will come!

Thanks guys for replying...its good to know you are not alone.

I had kept a diary for 6 months of my cycle. I took my temperature and documented every pain, etc that I got along the way. It became pretty clear that I had a "normal" 28 day cycle. DH's test was excellent and so my the first thing my doc did was a lap (which was normal) I have had normal scans and all my blood tests are normal. With each IUI, they have checked DH's count and motility, and it is always 85% and great motility. I have had every test known to man and its all clear.

Rouge - Perhaps I will try another opinion, but I don't know what else they can test for. My doc was convinced that it would be my tubes but he said they were as clean as a whistle.

Lauri - I know how you feel....I don't even want to go ahead with this IUI - I can't see the point.....it'll bring me no closer to an answer. I'm also sick of it all.

Pray - Congratualtions! My list is not as long as yours so you have given me some hope!

Elliecat - We have done 2 IUI's with Clomid and had no luck. I have taken Clomid with this IUI as well (IUI will be next week). But not knowing what the problem makes me very low on PMA.

Pauline - I'm sorry to hear your DH doesn't want to continue IVF. have you thought of doing the IUI with clomid? The IUI only takes a few moments and is similar to a smear test....it only has a low success rate but perhaps your DH will be happier with that? I wish you luck.

Debz -thanks for your encouragement. Its also good to hear from you.

Thanks again for replying!

Em,

Im so sorry to hear of your unexplained infertility. I think that is the worse answer they can give as doctors but i guess sometimes they just dont know and its not thats its unexplained i just feel like they have a lack of information. Have you ever considered immunology testing.. i have heard that some people have successful ivf's and iui's after treatment.
I wish you so much luck, but please dont give up, we were in the same boat for so long, but eventually it worked for us. I really hope your next try at whatever it is you choose to do will work for you.
With Gods Blessings BFP!

Can i just add does nay one know that the leutal stage the part after ovulation is the most important stage, and all tests seems focused on ovulation and the pre ovulation.

The luetal stage should last between 12-16 days and any less, the fertiliated egg would not have time inplant.....

Has anyone had tests to monitor this stage??

I havent there must be a way to test this???

But yes, i know i should be pregnant p***es me off big style when a girl @ work gets preg by accident after a one night stand!!!!

How does that happen????

Arghhhh!!!!
TTC 6yrs......Have jumped off the rollercoaster for now, too many BFN's and too much heartache, to keep going....Moving on to fulfil other dreams!!!
