Should I take Folic Acid

Post by vickib »

Dear All

Should I start taking folic acid tablets I start my first cycle of ICSI end of September. Sorry don't mean to appear thick but I'm the worlds worst worrier and think maybe for some stange reason its not the same when you have IVF/ICSI, don't ask me why I think like this I know I'm being supper paranoid but I've completely lost all my brain cells and common sense since my journal for motherhood begun.

Thanks Vicki B

Should I take Folic Acid

Post by Karen W »

Hi Vicki,

Yes you should start taking folic acid now, it needs to build up in your system.

I take a multivitamin with 400mcg of folic acid in it. I have started taking a wellwoman (made by vitabiotics) supplement as that has it, plus evening primrose oil (epo), zinc and B6 which are all important for fertility.

In fact before embryo transfer I take an extra 1000mcg of epo and 30mcg of zinc as zinc is particularly important for your relevant organs!!

Once I have had ET I switch to just pregnacare (also by vitabiotics) just in case!!

Hope that helps.

Good luck with your treatment.

Karen
Should I take Folic Acid

You definately want to start taking folic acid, or even better yet, a good prenatal that has the 400mcg of folic. You want your body in the best condition possible to support your new baby.

Best of luck and whatever you do, feel silly asking, we're all there with you and have probably wondered the same things ourselves!

Catherine
