IVFers...I NEED your help!

Post by zirly »

Ok...please advise. My DH and I have selected a clinic. They have by far some of the best success rates in the whole country (even though they are in my back yard). They have (in my age group) 72% success rate for pregnancy. So...I went there and did a consultation, chose them, and am now on my way. First...I got my standard blood tests done (which I did at my GP since insurance would pay for it). I find out through my apt the other day at the IVF clinic that the lab that my blood work was sent did a wrong test and gave me a false positive for the HIV test and it needs to be re-done! I was hysterical until they assured me this happens all the time with this particular lab. I am thinking...if they KNOW this...they should have warned me. Then...I leave their office only to later find out I need to have the whole test done again (including blood draw). So, I have to come back in! They had me there...they took my blood for an FSH test, and forgot to take my blood for the re-test!!!!!! Also...forgot to mention...on this time sensitive schedule we are all on, I called on day 2 of my period and no one called me back for me to be seen! I had to call three times!!! Lastly...today I am suppose to start birth control pills. I am day five. I went to my pharmacy where the office assured me they would call them in...and NO PILLS! Never called in. Thank goodness I went earl enough to the pharmacy that I could call the office on a saturday and have them call it in.

Ok...enough background. My husband and I remained very impressed by their stats...but feel they really are lacking in competence. We are doing IVF with PGD and only wish for them to implant girl embys as we have two sons (please don't make this a whole debate...it is what it is and we feel as long as we are doing PGD...we might as well choose). However...this clinic has proven so incompetent with the little clerical stuff that I am concerned when it comes to identifying the right embryos to put back in...they will screw that up to!!!

So...would you guys stick with this clinic and move forward based on their amazing success rates and hope that once we get down to real business they will be competent, or would you cut bait and go to another clinic with less success?

TIA!

I would absolutely go to another clinic. I had a similar experience with a great clinic and wonderful doctor, but the receptionist and nurses always seem put out by my questions and trying to schedule appointments. They were always running late and a few times didn't even have me down for an appointment that they made! Administratively they were horrific. There was no way I wanted to give them another dime (even though insurance was paying).

I switched clinics and the difference was night and day. I'm so much more relax because everyone I deal with is competent and caring. I cant' believe I wasted three months of testing and failed IUI at my previous clinic.

Put your mind at ease and find another clinic.

Good luck :)

Mistakes happen once in a great while, but it sounds like that clinic is error prone.

Something does not fit together. This clinic is getting everything wrong and yet has some impossible-to-believe success rates? Poor communications with the patient, including dropping the ball on meds, will hurt pregnancy rates.

Hi

You have to trust your clinic. If you feel that you have lost trust then you should move.

I am also a little cynical about all the stats. Some clinics only take 'good' cases so there figures look better. I certainly would not take the stats as the only judge of where to go.

Another big issue with the whole ivf process is stress. I really believe that the more stress, then the less likely the chances of success.

If this clinic is going to stress you out then find another place.

Good Luck.

I agree with everyone. That statistics seem too high to be true. And I also believe that the more stress you have, the less likely the success. You have to be calm, trusting of the clinic, and work with one that doesn't make so many dumb little mistakes (little mistakes can lead to big mistakes, like you said).

BAIL!!!!!!

You need to be as calm as possible. It sounds like they would increase your stress level! Run and don't look back! Good luck!
