Hi all.
Jovigal - We have the follie scan on around day 11 to check how many and what size they are. For my frist IUI I had the follie scan on day 12 and I had an 18mm follicle so the doc gave me a shot of HCG. The HCG mimmics the LH surge you would naturally get to mature your follicles before ovulation. By giving it, you can guarantee you will ovulate in 36 hours. That way the doc can plan when to do the IUI. Its just a little shot in the tummy but it does hurt a little.
I don't think they give to everyone, but I have had it with both IUI's just to give the doc a little more control over my cycle. By using the OPK you are checking for the natural LH surge. So its kinda the same thing.
Your IUI will be timed to conicde with Ovulation so your 2WW (2 week wait) will start the day of the procedure. Most places will get you to go in for pregnancy test 14 days after IUI, which is when your period would arrive if you weren't preg. I have never had AF arrive until after I have tested and got a BFN....I can imagine it would be heartbreaking to get AF the day before your test date.
Nicki - How are you holding up? You sound pretty positive which is great! About the follicle size - I believe that until they are over 16mm follicle don't contain eggs of decent quality. I think that 17mm would be borderline. I had my follie scan today and I only had 1 follie at 12mm.

I hope he grows....feeling pretty low at the mo.
Lis - I am so sorry to hear your bad news. Did you manage to have an alright holiday at all? Its good that you are jumping straight back in. You'll be cycle with Jovigal and me. A biochemical pregnancy is a good sign, right??? I mean, at least you know that fertilisation is possible...just gotta make the darn things stick!
Gdph - Welcome! You are most welcome here. As for your question about success...who knows? We were given the option of either and decided to try IUI as it was cheaper and less invasive (and we are both supposed to be normal). But I have since found out it only has around 15% success rate. Having said that, I have heard of a lot of couples who have had success first go. My friend's sister has had 2 and got pregnant both times (daughter first and now expecting twins).
I think its definately worth giving it a go but I think it pays to put a limit on the number of attempts. This is our last cycle and then we are going to IVF in the hope we get some more answers. I wish you luck.
Woah this is a biggie from me!
