Travel During Twin Pregnancy

Post by dreamy_silvermoon »

I would really appreciate to get some answers to the question I have since I am a bit confused!

Can anyone encourage / discourage travelling overseas (10 hours + flight) during twin pregnancy? Does anyone have any experiences to share?

Thank you very much in advance!

I think it depends what stage of pregnancy you are at. Plus be careful with travel insurance. I'm pregnant with one and it took me ages to find insurance that actually mentions pregnancy. I think it said too that if you have multiples, you may need a note from your doctor.

sorry I cant' be more help

I was going to travel out of the country in my first trimester with twins. My doctor told me I was fine to travel and didn't give me any restrictions. Both the IVF clinic & my regular OB told me it was ok. Of course they warned me of the possibility of a miscarriage and being away from home.

I ended up not traveling though because I was so sick (m/s all day long) so I cancelled our trip. Luckily we had purchased the travel insurance which required a claim form to be completed from my doctor stating that I shouldn't travel (even though they said I could travel they wrote the note anyway).

The 2nd trimester I felt great and took 4 trips, although not international. I wasn't worried about miscarrying and I wasn't sick anymore. Now that I'm in the 3rd trimester I've really slowed down and am getting uncomfortable. Usually after 7 months flights are not recommended because they cause dehydration, which can cause contractions. So I'm not traveling now.

I would ask your doctor, but from what I learned traveling in the 1st T is ok (as long as you are ok with the risk of miscarrying and being away from home)...but the 2nd T is the great one to travel. 3rd T, probably not so good, especially with twins.

I think Zita West recommends not travelling in the first trimester. My acupuncturist trained with Zita, she says the same.

she explained it like this............if you put a biro pen in your pocket on a flight, look at it when you get off. the insides explode! Thats how Zita taught it she told me.
however, how many flight attendants must fly every day?

I decided to wait til the second trimester before I took any trips.
