Terrified of another Ectopic

Post by Myriah »

Hi Everyone,

I had my first IVF procedure in March of this year. I was of course over joyed to find out I was pregnant. Unfortunately the pregnancy turned out to be ectopic and I had to have surgery to remove the baby and stop the bleeding. The whole experience was terrifying.

I had 2 beautiful blastocyst transferred on 8/7/06 and I am very excited by the possibility that I might be pregnant again. However........... Every time I feel any sort of pain on my side I think, they better not be implanting in my tubes.

I am soooooo scared of another ectopic. Can anyone share a happy story of a normal pregnancy after an ectopic one?

i'm not a doctor but i thought the chances were lower of ectopic if you have ivf.....i mean they actually put the egg into the uterus. you would think it would be difficult for it to then go travel into the tube to implant. that's just my opinion....no worries. it's out of your control and in God's hands. Remember, everything works out in the end. I too have miscarried and am not celebrating until the ultrasound shows a heartbeat. Just be cautious and enjoy for now.

Gigi,

Thank you for reminding me that it is unusual to have an ectopic with IVF. Hopefully last time was just a fluke.

Good luck in your pregnancy.

It is randome for that to happen so just think that statistically odds are WAY in your favor this time.

Enjoy and best of luck on your BFP

Hello!

I just wanted to say that I had ectopic when I was on clomid and I had to have my left tube removed. Went on to IVF and got pregnant but unfortuately miscarried but it was in the right place!

I think that when you transfer blastocytes your chances of ectopic are less because they are ready to implant...

Good Luck!

Myriah,

I had an ectopic pregnancy last February and am now nearly 31 weeks pregnant through IVF. Ectopics are very rare with IVF as you "bypass" the tubes but unfortunately a small minority do happen. The chances of it happening again are going to be even slimmer. I understand your concerns, but it is a rarity rather than the norm.

Best of luck with your treatment!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I went through an ectopic 18 monts ago and have been unable to conceive evr since. I am also scared of it happening again. My doctor has reassured me that the chances of this happening again are very low. Good luck to you and I hope everything goes well for you.

Hi Myriah

When you had your ectopic last time did they not remove your tube? Surely this will lessen the chance of it happening again??

I was told I had a slightly higher chance of an ectopic with IVF than a normal pregnancy but maybe it was because I've been sterlised.

Although they are put back in the uterus then then float about for up to 10 days before implantation, this is when they can move up to the tube.

When I got my BFP I was so petrified of having an ectopic. My mum had one a few years ago so know what they can do. I've been having cramping pains since EC, one day at around 5/6 weeks the pain moved just to the one side. I went straight to hospital and they scanned me. They were worried that maybe one of the embryos was in the tube and one in the uterus. Luckily there was just the one embryo where it should be.

If you have pain and you are at all worried then just go straight to your hospital. Hopefully they will ease your mind.

Best of luck and stop worrying

My worrying is a little premature since I have not had a pregnancy test yet. When I had my surgery they did not have to remove my tube. My doctor and I decided that if it happens again we will remove my tubes. I really don't need them since I have so many frozen embryos.

Thank you everyone for your stories. It really helps hearing from all of you.

Now that I am officially pregnant I am still totally terrified that I might have one normal pregnancy and one ectopic. I can't seem to find peace of mind.

I have these weird pains near my hip bones. Mostly on the side of my last ectopic but sometimes on the other side too. I also have lower pinchy feelings near my pelvic bone. Neither one these pains is intense just annoying.

I am loosing my mind!!!!!!!!! I was so happy that my first HCG was 577 now I am doubting everything. I have another blood test tomorrow. I think if my numbers don't double I will go crazy.

If anyone out their had normal 1st trimester stomach pains please share your story.

Myriah,

I would say all is looking good for you, since you got your +ive so early past transfer as with ectopics generally the number are slower to rise. When i had my ectopic dec 03 i was nearly 6 weeks pregnant before i even got a positive pregnancy test. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

sue e xx

ps. i have since had 2 +ves, both in the right place, 1 M/c and i am currently 28 weeks pregnant, so there is hope

Myriah- I had those wierd pains near the hip bones too...especially when you get out of bed or suddenly cough??? I asked my doc. about them. They are called round ligament pains and are extremely common. Just the support for the uterus getting ready!

Thank you so much for writing me back. It really makes me feel better. I just got the results back to my 2nd HCG test and they were 1,325 which means they doubled in 2.5 days. I am feeling better and I don't have any pain today. :D
