Bad news on Day 2 post-ret

I am so bummed out and just need to vent - this is my second IVF and I went to a new clinic this time. First time I had eighteen eggs, twelve fertilized, I was very optimistic and when I went for the day 3 transfer they told me that all but three had arrested and there was one six cell embryo and two five cell ones, all with lots of fragmentation. Needless to say a BFN
Then, the cycle after that, I got pregnant naturally somehow and it turned out to be a blighted ovum, which was devastating.
Now, eight months later, at a new clinic, I started with a slightly different protocol. Retrieval was Tuesday, 23 eggs yeah! 19 fertilized, I was told yesterday, again, I was very happy. Now, today, day two post-retrieval, I got the news that although there is almost no fragmentation (yet), all of the embryos only have two or three cells when they should have four at this stage. Transfer is scheduled for tomorrow but after reading on-line, it doesn't look good for such slow developing embryos, especially given that I am 41.
Anyone have any success stories with 2 or 3 cell day 2 embryos?
I am so sad and DH is unavoidably out of town until tomorrow. I have chosen to tell only a very few people about the treamtent and feel pretty alone. I just feel like I can't go through this same scenario AGAIN!!

I had 2 3 cell embryos that were replaced after 2 days in two cycles and fell pregnant. Unfortunately I miscarried at a later stage. During one cycle we had only one egg that did fertilise- can you imagine just having one egg after all the work we put in! This taught me to never give up hope even though like you I haven't told anyone about our IVF and sometimes feel alone and people just don't get IVF unless they are doing it as well.
Keep going and hopefully this will be the one cycle that works for you. The thing is we just never know!

absolutely do not give up yet....people have 3 grade A 8 cells and don't get pregnant and others have one 3 cell and do get pregnant. you just never know. I know waiting is hard but hang in there. I had 18 eggs retreived; 11 were good and only 2 fertilized. We are pregnant but cautious until we hear a heartbeat. I am 39 this month and know how you feel with age and stuff. Hang in there and keep busy to distract yourself as much as possible. See some good movies.

Thanks for your support everyone - I got some unexpected good news when I went for the transfer! Apparently I should have spoken to the embryologist as it seems the MD was reading the cell count from the Day 1 column and my embryos on Day 2 were all three to five cells! They ended up transferring 4 grade 1 (the best in my clinic's system), 8 cells and froze 12 other embryos ranging from grade 1 to grade 1.5. Given my age, the MD still gives me only a 30% chance but just the fact that they didn't all stop growing like last time gives me hope and makes me feel better. I guess the lab really can make a difference, although the MD's chart-reading skills seem to leave a bit to be desired!
