New lady; in 2ww first ivf cycle 3dpet want to join me?

I have just found this site, and want to introduce myself to you and say hello, and maybe make some ivf buddies.

I have just finished my cycle . I was only partly stimmed, as i wanted it to be as natural as possible I had the gonal-f, and shots, from 3rd day, and happily ec produced 14 nice follies. I had 11 icsi fertilize, 5 little frozen ones, and 2 loverly 8cell ones et a three days ago. Now the mad 2ww...

I am worried however, that looking at a lot of boards, and statistics it seems to me that because us ladies in the UK under 40 are only allowed to transfer up to 2 embies, that we have a slightly lower chance of success. I look at american boards, and i would estimate that at least 50% succeed on first ivf, where the statistic here are a mere 25-30%.

Hence im not doing a dance yet, but i wonder why that is? If you are over 40 you can implant more? Strange rule...

welcome to the site and yes, I know, it is strange how each country seems to do things differently! yet from what I understand, triplet births are pretty scary and so if you can get pregnant with 2 that is probably better in the long run! But the cut offs seem pretty arbitrary. Our doc said that they are only transferring 1 in some countries now and so I was grateful they would do 2 for me!

It seems you have responded really well. You should think of joining the August testing thread on the General Forum if you haven't already as there will be many women there on their 2ww aswell!

NO i had no problems at all, infact ive been pregnant twice, but not carried on the pregnancys in both . I have un explained, and thats probably where the frustration is. Its more difficult in that case as there is no obvious reason why we cant fall pregnant.
Its nice to know that i can put all my worries on here, and have nice responses.

Im bored of the 2ww....... ive ate ate, ive got a beef fetish, cant stop eating cows.....lol cramps every day, so not holding out.

I have to test next wednesday omg

Hey - mind if I join in?? That's pretty crazy that they regulate you to 2 or 3 depending on your age - seems to me it should be based more upon choice and risk assessment based on particular need for IVF.

I am just 40 and with Male Factor issues, we did IVF w/ICSI this past Monday, 8/7. 3 embies transferred - 2x6 grade 3, 1x6 grade 2 (clinic here grades on a "strict" 1-3 scale, 1 being best, no frag).

Had 2 chems in the last 2 years, so here we go to bring in the cavalry! Having lots of sharp cramping, and all kinds of fun from PIOS.... anyone else? beta on 8/21 - such a long time to wait....

my real beta is due wednesday, or hpt on Friday said the clinic, but im going to go on Tuesday to put me out of my bloody misery. I know this hasnt worked, and i just want the betas to prove it really...

Im more angry than anything, rather than sad i think..However i will wait for my beta I just want to prove to hubby that my 10miu sticks are accurate...

Hi - Glad to have some gals to pass the time with - I am due for testing next Tuesday the 22nd. A little to introduce myself - this is my second IVF attempt and the first at a new clinic. I have also tried IUIs with no luck but did have one natural pregnancy last year that ended up being a blighted ovum. My first time around I had 18 eggs, 12 embryos that all looked good until day 2 but then when I went for my transfer all but three had stopped developing and the three that were left were poor quality. A pretty horrible experience all in all. He said it was due to age. No success. I was living in Paraguay at the time and my MD in the US suggested that this might have been due to lab conditions.
So, this is my second attempt. I am in the process of going back to the US and so stopped in Brazil on the way back and am having the second attempt done here in Sao Paulo. My husband is Brazilian and costs here are significantly lower than in the US and technology is good so it seemed like a good option.
I had 23 eggs retrieved on Tuesday the 8th and 19 fertilized. Apparently this is unusual for someone my age (41) and the MD here thinks it may be an indication of latent PCOS. Anyone know anything about this PCOS issue? On day 2 he told me that all were only 2 to 3 cells, which sent me into a panic as they are supposed to be 4 cells and I was so scared that they would all arrest like last time. But, when I went for the day 3 transfer on Friday, he apologetically told me that he had been looking at the wrong column and that he had given me the cell-count for day 1 and that on Day 2 they had had 2 to 5 cells. What a relief! I was irritated but better that type of error than tellling me they all had 5 cells when they had really only had 2 or something! So he transferred 4 8-cell embryos (4 is the legal limit here) that he said were excellent quality with no fragmentation but that because of my age my chance for success is about 30%. There were 12 to freeze. Even if I don't get a BFP, I feel better because at least they didn't all stop growing this time and I have some frozen ones.
Ambrosine - why are you feeling so pessimistic? Did you do an HPT that came back negative? Last year when I had my mc I tested with HPT 14 days PO and got a negative, two days later I had a positive blood test. How many days post-transfer are you right now? From what I understand from your post, it must be too early to test accurately though I understand the compulsion to do so, that's for sure!

wow what a world trip of ivf you have been on. Im 39 so we are not to disimilair to age.

um i tested on avery very low 10miu test, so something should have picked up.My beta is due this wednesday, and i may ask for one on tuesday to put my mind at rest...

How do yo move on and forward mentally? Im pretty wacked out already and tired of ttc and although this is the first ivf, im a bit peeved.

I have 5 frozen ones. I had 2 8 cell embies put back, so the buggers should have bloody stuck lmao!!! if not im going to tell them off..

Ambrosine - so sorry to hear that the HPT came back negative. I guess that is definitely not good news but there must be some reason they tell us to do the beta so I don't think that it is completely "game over" just yet for you. Post on Wed and let us know what happens!
As far as moving on, after my failed IVF I got pregnant the cycle immediately following naturally - and then miscarried. The pregnancy took some of the sting out the failure and then I was so distracted by being devastated by the miscarriage that I didn't have that much time to think about the IVF failure! I had a friend who was going through IVF around the same time as me though and she said something that I thought was a good way to look at things. After her negative beta, she said "well, I would have considered myself incredibly lucky if this had worked the first time around so I can't let myself be too discouraged". She is younger (32) and has not yet tried again, though intends to in a few months. Also, if ballpark success rates are 25% to 30%, for about 3 out of 4 people it doesn't work the first time around anyhow. I think it helps to look at it as a process which may take more than one attempt and not as seperate, discrete episodes if that makes any sense. The trick is not falling into catastrophizing mode I think - i.e. letting yourself have thoughts such as "this will never work for me" and "it is hopeless". There really isn't any evidence to support those types of thoughts at the moment and I think it helps to remind yourself that you are doing everything possible, are not giving up etc... Either said than done of course!
I have another 8 days before beta-day. I have been obsessively scouring the internet for IVF success rates by age, by embryo quality, by number of embryos transferred, by number of eggs retrieved....I have to make myself stop!!!

Hey all - woke up to 8dp3dt today, which is also about the time I'd be getting AF... and, getting nervous - starting to get PMS - hopefully for good and not bad reasons. Did an HPT today - early, I know, but in the past, i've shown PG on day 28-30 (2 m/c's - chems) so - trying not to put the cart before the horse, but....

Hi Ambrosine the reason for more after 40 is because the older woman get the higher chance of M/C and the womans female organs begin to age
faster. So to give extra help to 40 and over is because they are already at other risks so they need all the help and boosts for a more succesful rate. I heard actually it's 35 and older that fall into high risk factors.
I guess the younger you are the chances of multiples is higher and success rate in pg is better.

Hi Amrosine -
So did you do the beta test yesterday? What happened? How are you feeling? I still have another 5 days until test day - I am trying to not create any "IPSs" in my head (imaginary pregnancy symptoms - I saw that on another board and thought it was funny!) and not analyze every little twinge. but I am having a hard time not poking my boobs every few minutes to see if they are still sore! I keep looking at the photos of the embryos and willing them to keep growing!
