Weight Loss right before IVF

Hi everyone. I know weight loss is good for IVF. But what about RIGHT before?

I'm about 12-16 lbs overweight. Nothing dramatic, but still gives me a BMI of nearly 27, which is less than ideal.

Is losing weight IMMEDIATELY before IVF a good thing? I could probably lose 12 lbs in the 5 or so weeks between now and my first appointment (that's 2.5 lbs a week. Hard to do, but I've done it before ...).

I just wonder if it's too close to diet like that now. Anyone know?

I had to lose 2 1/2 stone to be accepted onto the IVF waiting list. I have kept most of this off but went on holiday just before our first appointment and put on about 7 pounds. When I went for the first appointment there was about 4 weeks before we were due to start and I thought that the consultant would tell me to go away and lose the weight but he didn't. My clinic prefer you to just eat well in the lead upto IVF. I have also heard that dieting right before can rob your boby of some of the nutriants it needs and so is not good for IVF. I would give your clinic a ring for their advice.

I don't actually know the answer to your question but i'd of thought, that its probably best not to try and lose that amount of weight so close to your treatment. I would say its probably best to just eat healthy and walk etc but not over stretch your body as you're body will need to adjust to both the weight loss and the drugs at the same time!

You haven't got that much weight to lose so it'll b harder than if you were more overweight so you'd have to diet that much harder!

I would say maybe give the clinic a call and see what they advise!!

I started DR on the 1st August and I have found that with the constant worry/excitement that you lose a few pounds anyway!!
