IUI and ovulation. Please help!

Post by Cori »

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. Last month, i started my 1st round of Clomid, produced 5 follicles, got an Hcg shot on Day 12 and was told to have intercourse 24 hours after the injection which unfortunately again failed.
I am now on my 2nd round of Clomid however this time we are trying IUI. I am taking Clomid days 3-7 in comparison to 4-8 last time. I go in for my ultrasound and Hcg shot on Day 13 but I am concerned that I will have already ovulated by this time as I usually (before fertility meds) ovulated on either day 11 or 12.
Does clomid change yourovulation days? If you are producing multiple follicles of different sizes, do you have multiple ovulations? What is the standard day that you will ovulate if you are on Clomid days 3-7. Also, if you are going through IUI can you have intercourse before you get the IUI or are you supposed abstain before it in order to increase the sperm count? There is no male factor.
I would greatly appreciate a response if anyone has one.

clomid

My clomid is prescribed CD 5-9, what i've read indicates that the earlier the clomid the more follicles produced, later start doses would produce larger follicles but fewer of them.

My Gp said the normal for OV after clomid is normally 5-9 days after your last tablet.

For me I ov'd on CD 17 (bfn though) which was 8 days after the last dose. (slightly later than i have done in the past without meds)

As for multiple ov's, apparently not, if you are going to OV twice its always within 24 hours of the first one. Follicles left behind are reabsorbed into the body or in some cases with clomid can lead to ovarian cysts.

Good luck xxxxxx

I had my first RE visit and his plan for me is to get an HSG and saline sono bet CD 7-11 and presumably start me on Clomid 100mg on CD 5-9 and get U/S on CD 3 as baseline and then another one on either CD 13-15 to check follicle size. He said I will get an HCG shot at 10pm of the date my follicle is ripe enough then do my ist IUI 36 hrs later. He also said to have bd that nt and the next 2 nts to cover bases. My friend did IUI using same protocol and is pregnant with triplets on the first try. (only she used hormone shots instead of clomid) Hope that helps!
