Short Protocol Questions

Post by LouiseT »

Hi Girls

I haven't been on the web site for ages so technically I suppose I'm a new girl. Had failed IVF in March and just had 2nd treatment abandoned as I didn't produce enough follicles. I'm seeing the consultant in a couple of weeks but the nurse mentioned they might do the short protocol next time. What does this mean? And that the consultant mentioned progesterone too. Why, how, when??

I hate all this waiting around - its like life's permanently on hold.

Any help/advice would be great.

Lol

Louise

Short Protocol Questions

Hello

I had a short protocol for ICSI 2..so much better in one way and not so good another..

Good points - less days of injecting as you down reg and stim at the same time from day one for around 10 days..so very short cycle..

- much less stress as only 2 or 3 scans during the whole time and not so much waiting around ..Dh and I found it so much easier. If you are a slow responder they boast your ovaries from normal as they probably had a slow and very little response on the long protocol.

- Slight reduction in the cost of medication and also less time off work.

Bad Points - Lower success rate than long protocol..but then you have to balance this with less stress in your body!

Good luck with it all.

Becky B

Short Protocol Questions

Hi Louise, I have had my last couple of cycles on short protocol and I much prefer it, this time has gone very quick, I didn't have to sniff, just straight to injections, and only 2 scans before EC (am now on 2ww). I had my first cycle abandoned because of poor response on long protocol.
Progesterone is whats in the pessaries you use after EC/ET- maybe they meant this?
Hope this helps a bit, and good luck
Lots of love
Kat xx
Me & DH both 41
ICSI #1 - abandoned
#2 - cancelled - DH accident
#3 - 1 transferred, bfn
#4 - 2 transferred, bfn
#5 - abandoned
#6 - no eggs at EC
#7 - DE in Barcelona - bfp but lost Dec'05
#8 - DE UK - bfn
#9 - FET Sept/Oct '07....
