Post by nicolae »

Hi there

I had my first IVF treatment, unsuccessful unfortunately. Although I had 11 eggs fertilised only 2 were any good i.e. the rest were too fragmented. I have looked everywhere for reasons why this may happen but have found no answers, can anyone help.

Thanks Nicola

fragmented embryo

I am sorry to hear that you have been unsuccessful. I've has 2 ICSI cycles (both failed) and both times I was told that my embryos were fragmented. The first time I told that there was no reason for this and there was nothing I could have done to make a difference. The second time it was suggested that my eggs don't like to be injected and that this caused the fragmentation. BUT that this was only 1 factor and really you never know why they are fragmented. This is not really that helpful when you are searching for a reason why treatment didn't work, but it gave me something to hang on to. Unfortunately ICSI is our only route as DH's sperm not good at swimming so my eggs will have to get to like being injected! Take care.

fragmented embryo

Hi Nicola I had my first IVF a few months ago and I also had poor quality embryo's with fragmentation. being a scientist I decided I wanted to know everything there was to know about it and basically it can be a few things, PCOS is one reason poor stimulation protocol can be another. but if you had 11 eggs fertilise that's unlikely. fragmentation does not mean you cannot get pregnant how good were the embryo's they put back? I only had grade 3/4's anyway are you going to try again or are they going to try something different. One last thing I did catch previously but miscarried so it is possible to get pregnant with poor quality embryo's. the miscarriage was unrelated.
let me know how you are doing
Aly
x

Thanks for your replies. I am going to try again but not until the new year as I live in Africa and so have to travel back to the UK for treatment. Fingers crossed and hope all goes well for you too.
