2ww question

Post by smileydi »

I had my ET on Monday at a different clinic from the last IVF. I was told to be more horizontal than vertical for two days. The last clinic said bed rest for one day. My accupuncturist said to lie flat on my back only for two days (up for bathroom, meals only). I am sooo confused!! I must say I laid on my back the 1st day but got up more on the second(bathroom, shower, meals). Any tips, advice?? Did I mess things up for myself?

ET rest

Post by racquel »

My clinic was very conservative and had me stay down for 5 days following ET. Only up to use the bathroom and shower - but sitting up was okay, just no other activity. It's tough ... but it worked for us at least! Good luck and I wouldnt beat myself up if I were you - all you can do is listed to your doctor/clinic and do your best to follow their advice.

Hi Smiley,

My clinic did not recommend ANY bed rest. Just to take it easy the day of the ET and no heavy lifting for the next 2 weeks. I also had accupuncture and had a session before ET and a session straight after. I felt very relaxed and tired after the 2nd session and slept the afternoon away. I guess I fell into a bed rest without intention. I have a BFP on 18th August. If you can rest. Otherwise don't worry too much about it babe.

Lots of love and sending baby dust your way

Hi Smiley

I was also not told to have any bed rest after the ET. Just not to do any physical activity, rest for 2 days, take it easy for 2 weeks, no air travel, no baths and no sex. I even had to stand on the train for nearly 2 hours after ET on our way home! I took it easy, I didn't hoover for the first week but by the second week I was out having some retail therapy. As you can see it worked for me!

I think if we gathered the advice of all the clinics around the world it would be best if they just anthesised us for the two weeks!

Just go with the advice of your clinic and do what your body tells you to do.

Best of luck to you

Jo

Hi Smiley!

I know my reply may be late! My Dr. advised to take 3 bed/house rest! After one week of the ET he allowed me to the beach and swim! and I travelled after 10 days of the ET! During my first 2 cycles I was more cautious..

I am not a good example because it didn't work with me either way (cautious/not cautious)! However each Dr/clinic have their own methods and I think you should just keep high hopes and a positive attitude no matter what!!!

Good Luck

From the published studies I've read, bed rest does not seem to help. One study says it's worse than being up and about.

The bed rest issue can be so confusing! :?

I think you're probably fine, as I've seen BFPs on this board for a range - from 5 days complete bed rest to others who did absolutely no bed rest.

Personally, I've done bed rest twice - once got BFP and once got BFN. So, even though my RE is adamant that you do 3 day bed rest, I'm not sure it's really necessary based upon the information I've seen here.

My question is why with no evidence to support bed rest do the REs keep recommending it (and Ghost says even 1 article showing possible negative impact....)? It seems like there's so much to this IVF business that's more 'art' than 'science' sometimes. You'd think with the amount of time, money, physical challenges we all spend, there'd be more definite answers.

Lot's of baby dust to you Smiley - best of luck!

Smiley- I was given 24 hr bed rest and lite/normal activity after. No heavy lifting, no sex still take it easy. 2 IVF cycles came back negative.

From what I'm reading here maybe I should run around the block

Having an FET (frozen embryo transfer) this Thursday :!: :!:
I probably still will do the bed rest but to some extent.

Lot's of luck to us both and everyone else

Thanks Kabillion, Suzhan, and Luvbabies for your posts. I am on my 2ww and should be testing on 9/11 or 9/12. I was just told to take another dose of HCG today which I wish I didn't have to because I do not want to push back my test date. I would just like to know one way or the other so that I can go on with my plans... I don't want to keep taking meds if I am not pregnant! Anyhow, if this one is a BFN I think we will do a FET next. Luvbabies, what was the protocol for you to prepare for a FET? Best of luck!!

Well, for me they waited for my period-I called w/my start date then the put me on chlomid to begin the ovulation process(I've heard sometimes they put you on birth control) I then didn't have an appointment for almost 2 1/2 weeks then I had ultra sound and blood ( 3 appoinments in 1 week) The only other meds to be taken are Methylprednisolone (6day pack) and then HCG shot (when they tell you specificly) and progestrone oil shots. After transfer also Estradiol pill. Very quick process compared to fresh IVF. No lupron shots for me atleast-I heard they sometimes go that route it depends on your DR. discretion.

Hope this helps ya :)
