Armpit swelling during 2ww

Post by Midas »

Hello all! I am in the second week of my 2ww after my first IVF attempt. I had two Grade A blasts transferred and we are very hopeful that it worked. A few days ago my left armpit swelled to the size of a baseball and has stayed the same. It doesn't hurt and appears to be a swollen lymph node, but it is a little scary since this can also be a symptom of breast cancer or other problems. My RE recommended I see my primary care physician. She did an exam and did not feel any lumps or other problems. She said hormonal changes can cause lymph nodes to swell in theory, but nobody seems to have heard of this specific type of swelling occurring before in pregnancy. They want to just wait until we know if I am pregnant before doing anything else. I think it is all way too coincidental and am hoping that it is either from the progesterone shots or a BFP. Unfortunately my RE won't move up the test, so my beta isn't until Monday the 4th and I am freaking out a bit.

Has anyone experienced or heard of this during fertility treatment or pregnancy before? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Sorry about your discomfort but I have no news to tell you. I've never heard of such a thing. Hopefully you get a Positive test result and everything clears up :D

Racquel and Luvbabies - Thank you for your responses. Luckily the RE did move up my beta to 9/1 and I got a BFP! We are so excited and I feel pretty confident that the swelling must be related to the pregnancy. I will still follow-up with my doctor, but I feel much better about everything. Thanks again and good luck to both of you!

Congratulations and Best Wishes for the pregnancy!

I don't know if this helps or whether it's related ...

My mother had one leg swell up like a balloon when she was pregnant with me. It made her pregnancy a pain (and I only became more of a pain when I was born ... :) )

The doc said she was having an allergic reaction to ... ME! The leg thing went away once I was born.

She also suddenly was irritated by her non-gold-post earrings, and has to wear gold-only to this day (I also can only wear gold in my ears, or my ears get infected).

Since no one has heard of anything, perhaps hearing of someone else who just swelled up in an odd place due to pregnancy will give you at least one possible non-scary cause. I mean, being non-dangerously allergic to your littly beany isn't ideal ... but given all things, it'll make a nice story to tell him/her. I know my mom milks her allergy to me for all it's worth ;)
