Can anyone help?

Post by LCP77 »

Hi! New to the board and have some questions. My DH and I have been TTC for 5 cycles (not many, I know), but I felt there was something wrong. After some initial tests, I have found that I have polycystic ovaries (not PCOS) which can be treated with Clomid and my DH has very low sperm count (small sample with count of 100,000, looked healthy otherwise). Has anyone had a similar experience with such a low sperm count and what steps did you take? I have an appointment with the RE on Tuesday, but I am curious to see what we should be expecting. Is IUI even an option? Or is it straight to IVF or ICSI? Thanks in advance for your responses!

Hi LCP77

I also have the PCO and then they found DH had sperm issues. His is morphology rather than count but we went straight to IVF /ICSI. You may just be IVF - they do a Zona binding test to see if the sperm can penetrate the egg - if it does then IVF is usually the go, if not then straight to ICSI.

Good lcuk at your apmt.

My DH had several bad SA's, then had a prostate infection. He finally had the TESE procedure where they had to go in and take the sperm. Now, we have 4 vials "on ice". We're planning to do IVF with ICSI.

LCP77,

Here is a link to a fairly pertinent article:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer ... med_docsum

They studied the cost effectiveness of IUI and IVF, including cases of mild male factor subfertility, and concluded IVF was more cost effective than trying IUI first.
