Old wives tales

Post by Zed2003 »

Hi girls,

Have you heard this one?????

If the heartbeat sounds like a galloping horse, it's a girl. If it sounds like a train, it's a boy??????????????? Can't say I'd heard it before...

Anyway, Anomoly scan says boy (as I thought) and there seemed little doubt if you know what i mean

Was at midwife yesterday and definately had a galloping horse in there   She's put doubt in my mind telling me how often scans have been wrong and now I'm wondering!!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I'll so have to apologise to my babe's diary if it's not a boy as i'm writing 'boy' all the time....... Anyone know of people wrongly scanned?

Hi Zoe

I haven't heard that one. Both my girls always sounded like trains to me! My sister told me that a fast heartbeat was a boy and a slower one was a girl but with my girls they were always above 150/160!

The only old wives' tale that I believe in is the heartburn one, I suffered during my pregnancies and both were born will a mop of hair! Oh and the one when you put a needle on a bit of cotton and hold it over your hand. It will either cirle or sway, you then hold it still and it starts again depending on how many pregnancies you are going to have. I think if it circles then it's a girl and sways it's a boy. Mine came up 6 girls. I have two and have lost three and now I'm pregnant again - I'm convinced this is a girl as well. I'll confirm with you all at my 20 week scan!

I don't know of anyone who's been told incorrectly though I saw one on the telly the other day. I wouldn't worry about it. They don't just look for one thing (some people say the cord can be mistaken but these are usually people who have never had a child), they look for the sac as well!

Hi Zoe!

A friend of mine was told that she was expecting twin boys and so was rather surprised when she gave birth to a little girl as well as a little boy (her poor daughter didn't have a name for a long time). And a lady from another site who was expecting triplet boys ended up with two sons and a daughter. But I don't personally know of any single baby boys who turned out to be girls ... until yours (only kidding)!

Take care.
