Bella - I cant believe that woman was so unsupportive, after all you were only after a scan. I would see if there is any chance of changing to someone else, who will give you the support needed. as to scans being bloody dangerous then why do a number of us have them 2 weekly? it hasnt done me any harm. It really does show how ignorant some people are, but you really dont expect if from someone who is a health care professional. Hoping things are soon sorted for your next visit and that you get that scan sorted.

Charli - glad to hear things are improving after your spell in hospital. Not long now.

Gregmbarry - things have been fine since being out, but to be honest before i went in i felt fine anyway, it was just the hospital that thought i wernt How are things with you? How do you feel being next in line? I cant believe how close we all are.

Cla - When are you next at hospital for your monitoring? I was amazed how much i felt 'bubble' moving about while i was in hospital, because i was resting most of the time. It was so cool to experience that. Not long for you now, i am so excited for everyone. I cant wait to hear the news that the 1st babe has arrived. 5lb 3 oz is fab, so far bubble is about 4lb 1oz

Kristi - I havent been given any restriction or anything, but i think i may find out today a little more, im just hoping the protein hasnt increased, as im not sure what they will say then. Your brave trying to work to the end, although in some ways it would be good. I finish on the 30th october, i think i will be 37 weeks.

What a week we are all having!

Sue - sorry to hear about the hospital stay, hope you got lots of rest, aren't you going to need it ... end of october means your working up to 38 weeks I think! Almost like me, was planning on finishing either 20 or 27th

Charlie - Sorry to hear about your eye and that can't be great having the migranes, hope for you too it means you got to rest a little and get pampered. Richard, I wish my DH WAS all stressed about everything being ready! He'd the epitomoy of laid back (err I mean lazy!) kiwi! I have written up a list of all the things he has to do over the school hols, but I have visions of me cleaning out the wash house and emptying shelves at 8.5 months, whilst he goes for a round of golf!!

Bella - no words other than . WOT. A TOTAL. B**CH. Thats totally outrageous and insensative of her. Of course its reasonable for you to want a scan for reassurance. And your right she shows a total lack of understanding, or even tolerance or willingness to learn about your situation if it's not one she is used too. Is there another midwife you can change too? If you can without it being stressful, I think it would be worth looking at having someone who is going to respect your choices and preferences and be less judgemental.

Cla - Glad to hear you have a dot in the right place on the graph! I have the opposite problem and am freaking as my dot is skidding OFF the graph! ....

(....Am actually really worried now about this whole big baby thing. Won't bore you all and repost the details, maybe you can read them under my "big baby help post". In short feel really anxsious about this now and would really love any advice or anyone who has had the same feedback.)

Gregandbarry - Heck next on the due date! I kind of get this feeling like we are all lined up in the helicopter and one by one we all get pushed out!! We are all here full of anticipation for you!! Eek glad am not going first! If it hurts a wee bit, (ahem) .... don't tell us about that bit please!

Julie, Lisa, Tracii, hope your all good too. Tracii, your life sounds so exotic with the Italian lessons and wee trips between italy and germany!

Final vent before I sign off is a work related one, not only do I have "big baby" worries confirmed today, had a meeting with my boss today, who is buggering off on business trip for three weeks next Friday (along with every other senior person in the department) and informs me hes happy "to delegate the process of replacing me" .... to ME!!! As he feels its crucial theres a 2wk handover period, and this can only happen if someone is found whilst hes away!!! Am very pissed off. And didn't agree, but then got REALLY bummed out when he was making comments, like, "as we're all professional, I see no need to stop the recruitment process whilst I'm away, and trust your judgement!" The last thing I want to have to stress about is finding a me to replace me in my last few weeks of work, heavily pregnant and with the prospect of being induced 2wks early! UH. Am so mad. Afterall I only gave him 7 months notice!

Lots of updates to catch up on! My scan yesterday shows the babies were "perfectly average" as the doc put it. 3 lbs 11 ozs and 3 lbs 9 ozs. Mel, I don't know how to convert that into the measurements you gave on your big baby post. I hope people can give you some reassurance on that though.

Mel, I suspect I'll be stuck hiring my replacement too. I've had a lot of added stress at work trying to get things wrapped up too. No fun!

Bella, what a bad experience you had! One more scan certainly can't hurt. Especially when you hear of others who have them often. People don't realize how insensitive they can be. Maybe you can change to someone else?

Sue, glad to hear you don't have any restrictions. Those with bed rest and restrictions don't make it sound like it's too fun!

Charlie, so sorry to hear about your eye problems. Amazing how pregnancy can affect so many different part of our bodies in unusual ways.

Gregmbarry, next up!! Wow! That's got to be a big sign that the end is nearing!

Wow lots of things happening for all of us at once.

Bella - what a terrible thing for you to have to go through - midwives are supposed to be supportive and understanding - sounds like this one is just the opposite. It's bad enough seeing how the normal population takes pregnancy and babies for granted - imagine the medical community being so passe! I say schedule your scan and do what you need to do to keep your mind where it needs to be - relaxed - so that your baby gets what he/she needs! People REALLY don't seem to understand that trusting your own body is nearly impossible for us IVFers!

Charlie - aw how awful to have migranes and vision problems! I hope things clear up (no pun) really soon for you! The blessing in this is that your baby is doing well!

Mel - ugh - what a nightmare - great to know that your boss is prepared for your leave!!! We are so lucky here - we have a lady who is filling in on someone else's mat leave and she's agreed to stay another year to cover mine - so we've had plenty of time to work together for training.

As for DH's...hehe...mine is so laid back (aka lazy - exactly the same as Mel's). The nursery is not painted yet. He's put 2 coats of primer on over a 5 week period - and just last week put the first coat of paint on - half way through the second coat - he ran out of paint...haha...perfect excuse to stop. Due to superstition - mostly in his family - he does not want to set up ANY furniture. So although we have a beautiful crib and change table - they're still in boxes in our basement.

I think we're all dealing with the pregnancy hormones at this stage - big time - and I feel sorry for all of those people who get in our way!!

Hope babes are all doing well and having fun these last few weeks in their cozy homes!!!!

Hi again,

Just a quick post as i am in need of a bath!!! All the tests went ok today although i have to repeat them all on Monday. on tuesday i have to do another glucose test and on wednesday i have to have a kidney scan, the hospital are concerned by the amount of protein i am giving out and are now wondering if i have an underlying kidney problem, so it is all go go go, not too worried though as i am being well and truly looked after. The midwife will be out on saturday to check my blood pressure, so will be on my best, lazy behaviour for then.

Mel: enjoy your leave and rest as much as possible. I've been on leave since the beginning of April.

KristiA: Wow over 3lbs, way to go. I go for my scan next thursday, had to reschedule.

Bella: I agree that one more scan will not help, as I mentioned before some people.....

Mel_P: I think that mine are goingto be big babies also, last scan which was 24 wks they weighed 2lbs..seven weeks will have passed when its time for my next scan.....I pray that your search for a replacement goes well and smooth.

Gregandbarry: The helicopter scenario posted by Mel_P was excellent. I will be happy but a little scared when it's my time.

Mel - what a nightmare at work. It's the last thing you need is to add more to your plate, and I think it's just him moving the 'to do' on to you, to make his life easier. If you need any advice or anything, let me know (I am an HR Manager, and have had a stint in recruitment). At least you are getting a replacement - 3 weeks to go & still no movement in that area for me (sigh...).

On the big baby front, I can tell you some good stories about friends who have had bigger babies & who's labour went fine etc. A friend of mine had her second baby girl on Monday, weighing in at 9 lbs (around 4.5 kgs). They told her at 34 weeks scan that her baby was big, and in around the 84th percentile. Both her daughters were the same weight at birth, and she had drug free labours each time (only gas), and she is not a brave person at all in that regard! I think she would have loved to have drugs, but the labours went so well she didn't need them, or have time for them! She didn't even have tearing. Another friend had a 10 lb baby, and although she had a epidural, there were no issues with her labour, and she carried the baby to full term.
Seriously, I think it comes down to menally being ready - you will be fine, just keep reminding yourself of that... I know it's hard to play Anthony Robbins with yourself, especially in our emotional 3rd tri state, but remember, women with less inner strength than you have delivered big & healthy babies, so you can do it for sure.

gregmbarry - I can't believe how different our DH's are!! My DH thinks the baby can arrive on our doorstep at anytime, needing sleep & a nappy change, so our room is ready! I also don't think my DH would trust himself to be able to put together the furniture without my instruction reading skills!

Kristi - great to hear about your boys looking good. How exciting!!!

Sue - great to hear everything went well with your tests...I hope they stay that way. You have a nice, relaxing weekend (ahhh, so jealous!)

Richard - I hope Charlie is doing OK....keep us updated.

I can't stop thinking about my awful midwife, and keep remembering more inappripriate and downright mean things she said. By the way, she's not a 50+ year old who 'knows best', she is only in her 30's! So to be patronised by her is just insulting! I would love to have a kind, nurturing midwife, but maybe me standing my ground with this cow is exactly what I need to get my strength ready for labour & birth. All I can say is, she needs to be ready for our next appointment! (Discalimer: Although I sound strong now, I reserve the right to write a crying post if I fall to pieces again after my next appointment )

he he *LOL* last para in your post had me in laughs bella! Here we are all so feisty and hormonal! I was muttering same mini war crys under my breath all day yesterday with my boss taking his chances big time by meddling with a heavily pregnant woman. As a mini rebellion, I actually suprised myself and decided to take the day off work today! Not something I usually EVER do, have spent afternoon snoozing.

Thanks all for the reassurances on my mini jonah lomu. For relative comparisons, baby is past 5lbs already (with 2 mths to go!) and am in 98%th percentile Realise I just really have to hold out and see what my midwife says. Think it might be the increasing prospect of an early baby (induced or natural) which is making me nervous, suddenly means have only 6wks left, and 3wks at work! But am getting ahead of myself there, don't even know if this is a real possibility yet. Kirsti, with having twins and all, is your current EDD at 40wks? Have they discussed with you any possiblities around induction from 37wks onwards, this happened with my friend who had twins.

Nice to discover new tidbits about people, so there are two HR peeps and Sue, your a teacher (in L'pool), is that right? I went to Uni in liverpool and the school kids on the way to uni used to scare the living daylights out of me! For me - I worked in graphics and DTP for quite a while but am now in publishing (marketing) and DH is a teacher.

Hope everyone is keeping well, whenever I see how far on our tickers all at are the end of peoples posts, I have to pinch myself to realise how close we really all are!

Hi All! I am still here...to be honest I have been really, really tired lately..not sleeping great at night and then taking naps in day which of course leads to bad sleeping at night..very vicous circle

Mel - Do big babies run in the family? Delivery with a big baby is daunting but she is healthy and the docs know what they are doing. I have a friend from college and she delivered a 12 lber! No drugs at all! She is about the same size as me..tall but with narrow hips so I don't know how she did it. The last check with Isabella was at 29 weeks and weighing in at 3.5lbs...she is gaining about .5 lb per week..so I think we will be in the same boat as you.

Sue e - I hope you are doing well and glad to hear the hospital took good care of you. Take good care of yourself and the little one.

Richard - Hope all is well with Charlie. My DH is the total opposite to you...not overly involved in the pregnancy...he is ecstatic but more nervous. We both will be older parents so it is still a happy shock for us!

Bella - I can't believe that midwife. Sorry I would have really let her have it. Maybe you can speak with her prior to delivery so you can set the record straight and feel more comfortable at delivery. I don't think we have midwives in Germany...well atleast my doctor will be doing the delivery..thank goodness because she is the absolute best!

Hi Kristi, Ahart, Gregmbarry!

Good news from my side is...I don't work anymore...after TTCing for years and going through the first IVF without success we decided it was time to leave the stressed out worklife. I was a consultant for over 10 years always travelling..not good when trying to get pregnant..then worked for one of the largest germany companies...needless to say very male-dominated and extremely beauracratic (i.e. on my first day of work as I was being introduced all the men kept asking 'so you must be Mr. x's new secretary ...I was like 'no I am your new boss') Anyway so I am starting the second phase of my work career...well mother first and then second phase is running the vineyard and bed and breakfast in Italy. (reason for learning italian).

I am not sure how you guys were able to work and be pregnant..not sure I could have done it knowing the number of naps I needed in the afternoon!

Have a mental few days coming up (antentatal last night, dinner with friends tonight, wedding Sat and then my Dad + step mum staying Sun/Mon) so won't be able to pop in. But hopefully now I'm becoming a lady of leisure (yeah right! never been able to sit still for more than 5 mins!) I'' have more time to sit and write proper posts!

Mel - You will be fine, but i am with you in the worrying stakes, when i was in hospital they gave me steroids, incase baby has to be delivered early and showed me around the labour ward, well the nerves kicked in, suddenly 8 weeks dosent seem long enough!!!! I am a support worker working with special needs in a secondary school (not quite a teacher), and yes if you dont know the kids and they are in group they are very intimidating, but once you know them you see a softer side. Did you enjoy uni life in Liverpool?

Am checking the forum more often then usual for words of wisdom on huge babies been trapped in small spaces Finding myself getting really quite wound up at it all, and have been so calm and relaxed for such a long time. Couple of people asking if it runs in the family, but this is what I dont understand, both my sister and I born at just over 6lbs, I am not particulary tall or large, and whilst my DH is much bigger build, I have been reading that fathers genetics don't determine baby size, just the mother.

Won't witter on, have used up my wittering card on this particular worry. Hope you all keeping well
