Hi, this is my first IVF/ICSI cycle and I had my egg collection today (friday) I had 15 follicles but they only collected 6 eggs and now I am terrified that they will not fertilise. they will be phoning me in the morning with the news and I am dreading it. Even if I do get one to transferd on monday I may not have any to store.
Anyone else had similar situation? what was the outcome?
Or anyone - how many eggs did you get and how many fertilised. Sorry to ask these questions but im just so worried!
At my consultation the gynaecologist said that he strongly advises me to only have one embryo transferred due to higher risk of twins in my age group (im 27) Now I am also beginning to doubt whether that is the right thing as how can my body be that great if I can only produce 6 eggs?
Hi Beckers 6 eggs is great all you need is one that wants to come join us... my friend had 4 eggs 3 fertilized and made it to day 3 told they where fragmented and not very good....she has twin girls...so dont you listen to anything down about yoru little ones...
wishing you a great end to your cycle...Debz

I had EC on Tuesday and only 4 eggs (6 follicles). I was very nervous too but thankfully, 3 fertilized so we're doing ET tomorrow. Know that you're not alone and it's going to work out great. Do nice things for yourself to stay calm if you can. I'm making all my favorite foods and making my DH take me out to a great restaurant tonight so I'm happy and calm going into tomorrow.
Take care of yourself.

2nd IVF 12/06, BFN
3rd IVF, 6/07, BFP, ended in m/c 7 weeks
4th IVF, scheduled for 10/07
I just went through my first IVF cycle. I had 16 follicles and 16 eggs. Nine of them fertilized. They put 3 in me (I'm 40). The six that were to be frozen did not make it, they said too much fragmentation. But you know what? I read where they can remove those fragments and I feel that with all that I went through to get those embryos, they could have put forth some effort for me.
Anyway, I had my preg test Wed 9/13 and it was negative.
I just wanted to share my experience with you. I don't think you need to worry, what with your age. You are very young.
Also, I know someone who only got 2 eggs, they transferred both of them and she got preg w/twins. One was stillborn, but the other one is a year old now. See that.... 2 eggs and it worked. Don't worry, the stress won't help. Good luck to you....... Leslie
Hi. Although I did not have a small amount of eggs, I, too, was advised to only put one back in. I am 31 and they said the risk of twins is very high. It really will depend on two things:
1. How you feel about having twins (if you are happy with it...then go for it and put back two)
2. The quality of the embies the day of transfer. If there is a superstar...you may only want to put one back in. If there are a couple medium quality ones...maybe putting them both in is a good idea.
FYI...I just put one back in. I get my test on Monday to see if it stuck
I had 25 eggs 15 fertilised, i'm on my 4th attempt using those 15 and we have had BFN's so far.
Wishing you loads of luck and i pray it works for you first time, If not don't give up hope, as the Dr says you are still young so plenty of time.
Take Care

You are correct that your clinician may be following an overly simple rule for deciding how many to transfer. When they get to the transfer point, they should use more information, like the actual quality of your own embryos, in deciding this. Not the average for your age group.
Unfortunately, ASRM guidance is based on age groups, and some physicians may feel compelled to follow it.
My 2 cents would be that, if you have excellent embryos, and if your clinic has good success rates with frozen embryos, then transfer just one and freeze the rest. Otherwise, try two or maybe even three.
On my first cycle i had 3 eggs and got only 1 embie from that. That embie is now 5 and called Abigail!
On my 2nd cycle I got 9 eggs (meds controlled better) and was advised to have only 1 replaced as I had a previous positive result i was advised that my chances of twins was high. I risked 2 embies and only 1 fertilised. Hes now 7 months and called Ryan.
Abigail is proof you only need one and Ryan is proof that even in the best candidates twins doesnt always be the case.
Anyway I hope all turn into embies for you and you get a BFp
