I did chorionic villus sampling when I was 10 weeks pregnant.
When I had a routine checkup and ultrasound scan, my doc found that the nuchal fold of the foetus was thicker then normal.

I did not do the blood test. My doc recommended CVS.
So CVS was performed. I understand that there was 1% risk of miscarriage. After CVS, I was fine and rested for two days. The preliminary test result came back the next day and my baby is normal.
My doc told me that since CVS is usually done in the first trimester, the early stage of pregnancy, some miscarriages that happened after CVS may not be due to CVS but the inherent defect of the foetus. He has some patients who had scheduled CVS and later called to cancel the appointment because miscarriage took place before CVS.

Therefore, he said that the risk of CVS is in fact not higher than amniocentesis. His view was that CVS and amniocentesis in fact have similar risk.
Since my doc has over 20 years experience and can perform both CVS and amniocentesis, I trust his opinion and can see no reason for him to bias towards CVS.
Having said that, every doc and every individual is different, my doc may not be 100% correct. No medical procedure is 100% safe. There is always a risk in invasive procedures like CVS and amniocentesis.
