Hi! I am just starting the Lupron phase of my first IVF and something does not seem right. Ever since I had my trial transfer and sono, I have had brown spotting. The day after I started Lupron, which was the 9-13, I have been having more (clotty-like) spotting and cramps, like cramps that I am going to start my period. Today is the last day for taking the BC pill, and they said I might bleed a little, but not to worry. Has this ever happened to anyone? Is this normal? Also, how does the cycle not make me have period when it is actually supposed to be due? My IVF procedure is sceduled sometime Oct 3-10 and that is two weeks after my period would have started if I were not doing this cycle. Help!!!
To first answer your question on the spotting...I think it is fairly normal. From everything I've read, the trial transfer is very similar to the IUI procedure I had in July. I spotted for a few days after it too. I would recommend that you talk to the RE and clinic just to make sure...
About your cycle, to explain it better, it's best to say that the BCP you were put on was to manipulate your cycle so it fit your clinic's schedule. Most clinics schedule their IVF's with several women doing it at the same time. Basically, they put you on the pill as if you were being put on "hold" to keep you in a state of limbo until their next cycle with the other women began. I'm in the same boat as you. Some women don't have to be put on BCP at all, others for a week, and others like me, up to nearly four weeks depending upon where your last period fell in comparison to their schedule. Now that you're on the IVF treatment cycle, and are phasing out the BCP, it's as if they're taking you off hold, and putting you at the stage just after your period is over. It's pretty neat how our entire cycle can be manipulated with drugs.
I hope this helps in some way...Please understand that I'm not a doctor, and all of this should be information you should be getting from your RE and clinical staff. The nurse practitioner at the clinic I go to is pretty much the "go to" contact if we have any questions. They encourage you to call if you have any questions or concerns, so I would encourage the same for you. I strongly recommend that you contact them this week and make sure you get good answers to all your questions and concerns.
Take care, and the best of luck to you…I go in for my mapping/trial transfer tomorrow and start my drug treatment this Wednesday…I’ll let you know if I have any spotting after my transfer. I’m sure I will, but just to let you know what I experience first hand…All my best…

Thank you for your detailed reply. You helped me see things clearer. I was absolutely going to call Mon., but I just wanted some feed back from others going thru it in the mean time...just so we don't worry all day you know? Again, thank you and good luck to you!
I was on bcp for almost 6 weeks. I personally bleed or spotted for almost 4 weeks of those 6--. I also spotted with the lupron and actually got a fairly normal period coming off bcp and being on lupron. I think it is very normal to spot or bleed during this process. Your body is being manipulated into doing things that it isn't use to do and the meds are also changing our normal cycles.
What stims are you going to be on?
