Dear Mel,

Just read your big baby post and can sympathise with your concerns. I have been having growth scans and last Monday's the baby weighed in at 6lbs 5. I was 34 weeks 5 days! I am only 5"3 and slim (though hope having a"full" bottom means wide pelvis) It is also measuring about 2 weeks ahead with a big head and tummy - midwife's words "AT LEAST TUMMIES ARE NICE AND SQUISHY" :?

The other drama is that it is what they call extended breech which means i could be having a sunroof job. I have come to the conclusion that we all get given what we can cope with. I was wincing mentally but then i think of my sis-in-law who is tiny - size 6! She gave birth 2wks late to a 9 pounder with no trouble. I think if she can do it we can do it!

I was 7lb 11 and my Dh was about the same so i think it can be down to our diets possibly being too healthy  Alos we tend to take vitamins nowadays to give our babies the best chance and this might help their growth. Every midwife i have spoken to has said they much prefer a big baby as they are able to cope better when born.

I have decided to take the view that my body has done an exceptional job of nuturing my baby and so has yours!

Don't panic and get back into your lavely relaxed state and enjoy that kiwi spring sunshine!

Love saraid

Hey everyone! I posted a 32 week pic on photobucket.

Mel, it sounds like lots of people are giving you reassurance about their expeirences with having bigger babies. Hope you are feeling a little less worried about it.

Jessica, glad to see you over here. You are close enough to the 3rd T, so join us! We missed you for the past few weeks.

Cla, congrats on being done with work!

Have a good week ladies!

Hi All,

Thanks for all the sticking up for me guys!!! I spoke to a couple of friends who also had this midwife for their birth, and they said that she was really abrupt & mean in her appointments, but absolutely great during their births. And I don't even know if I will have her on the day - it all depends on when I go into labour & her shifts etc. So have decided I will go to my next appointment with her, and if she is a cow again, I will change my appointment days, which means I will see someone else. It means I avoid any awkward explanations about why I don't want her, which is another issue I just don't want to deal with right now.

Welcome across Jessica!! I agree with Mel, we have missed you!!

Mel - I look back on the last couple of months, and I have been totally emotional about 1 thing or another, most of which seems so foreign to me now looking back. I even went through the big baby worries (see previous posts!!!). Your baby is healthy, and better off being big than small. I think you need to work through this worry, and then find a way to rest with it, then it wont worry you at all, and you will look back and wonder what you were worrying about!! But feel free to witter & vent for as long as you need - that's what we're here for!!!

Kristi - great photo....you look so good!!! And how cute is your nursery, with 2 little cots!!?? I love it!

KristiA - what a great piccie. I love the nursery! The colors are very calming :D

Sue - How are you doing? Your career must be very demanding and require lots of patience! I really envy people like you who make a difference in the world :D

Mel - I hope you are feeling better about the baby. Saraid put it very eloquently about the baby being healthy and you doing a good job of nourishing her.

Jamato - welcome!! :D :D How are you doing?

Gregmbarry - I love your photo as well. That is one to be framed!

Cla - I hope you are enjoying your leisure time. Only a couple of more week left until your little one arrives. Can you believe it?

Is anyone else just feeling super, super tired??? I can't seem to shake it...it seems like I am 'on' running around getting stuff done or I am totally 'off' wanting to do nothing but sleep. The other thing is I am getting lots bigger..even one pair of maternity pants are not fitting...I am not used to the extra weight so this may be slowing me down too..mmm..2 more months to go! I can't even put my socks on or tie my shoes! I have to sit indian style on the floor.

We had a private tour of the clinic Friday evening. I am very, very impressed..it is extremely professional and relaxing...sort of like a 5-star hotel. Dh is also a little more at ease. He doesn't want to be present during the actual birth but the doctor said as soon as Isabella is born, cleaned and checked they will put her in his arms and he needs to walk with her and talk to her (while they make sure everything is ok with me). the look on his face was total surprise! She said it was important that he holds her and talks to her so she knows his voice and smell. we also went into the room where are the babies were..geez they are so damn cute! they just really pull at your heart and then you get more eager to meet your little one.

I wish everyone a relaxing Monday and good start to the week 8)

Hi Girls!!

Making my official jump over to third trimester thread!!! Wow I had even started to think about the big baby thing!!! I was a 6lb baby and my husband was a 9lb baby but he was also 18 days late!! (Glad my doc won't let that be the case) So I am hoping for somewhere between 7-9 lbs....Next week is a busy week - I have an ultrasound to check on baby growth, glucose test, rhogam shot and an appt - its funny to think now I will be seeing my doc every two weeks!!! Can't believe I am so close now!!!! Feeling really good - excited to start working on the nursery (after my husband and father in law finish the new wall) ...My poor crib is sitting downstairs in boxes cause I didn't want plaster dust all over it! Hoping to get things set up before I loose energy!!!

Is anyone else CONSTANTLY hungry now?

Hey ladies - I haven't posted in weeks! For one thing - i have been extremely busy at work and still have not gotten online from my house - although that is about to change very soon. Also - I don't know anyone on the 2nd tri. thread anymore so it felt strange posting there. I am 3 days away from my 3rd tri. and I couldn't take the waiting anymore - so here I am!

I hope to get caught up on all of your posts this week. Time is flying - isn't it? We are all getting big and getting our nurseries together and having showers - I can still hardly believe that one year ago this time I didn't think I was ever going to have children - now I have a precious little girl on the way.

Speaking of... I had an ultrasound on 9/11 that confirmed that yes, indeed, it is a girl. We are still sticking with green and yellow for the nursery though - just in case. Plus if we decide to have more children and we have a boy - we won't have to change it. I went shopping and registered for my shower - which will be the end of next month. I can't believe how much stuff we still need! OH MY is it overwhelming!

I am going to check out photobucket very soon to see all of your pics. I will try to remember to post a new one of me. My belly is really popping out now. When I tell people I still have 3 more months they seem shocked - guess I look bigger than 6 months but I really don't care. I am just so excited that the day is approaching!

I have missed all of you and look forward to catching up! Our time is almost here!! :D

Hello 3T Ladies (and Richard)!

I have been off for awhile and there sure has been a flurry of activity on this board. It is so great to see the new pictures of everyone. You ladies all look SOOOO fabulous!

It is so good to hear how everyone is doing, although I am sorry to hear about trips to the hospital, big baby worries, migraines, mean midwives, unsympathetic bosses and the like. Haven't we already gone through enough?!?! All I can say is, you girls are made of steel and will get through it all! I truly hope that the last few weeks are smooth sailing for everyone and that we can all relax and enjoy the last weeks of pregnancy without all those outside stresses.

Well, I am officially off the modified bedrest for the pre-term labor. It is back to work full-time for me, although my boss has said that if I want to continue working at the office just half days that he is fine with that. I am so fortunate to work with such an understanding group of people (all men) that remind me on a daily that our company believes that family and personal lives come first. It is so refreshing!

Not being on bedrest also means I am able to make a trip or two to the store to buy those last minute items for the hospital bag and home. Anyone have their bag packed yet? Does it count if I have my list made?

How are your birthing classes going? Ours are a lot of fun... we do so much laughing. It really is making me feel like I truly CAN get through the labor process. I'm actually more concerned about the intricacies of breastfeeding and figuring that out.

I hope everybody continues to keep up with all the posting. I love reading how you ladies are doing and say a lot of prayers that you are all doing well and dealing well. Time is coming very shortly for some of you and I can't wait to hear about your beautiful babes!!!!

Hi Julie,

you must be so pleased to be able to get up and about again, you make the most of the shopping time!!!!! It is also lovely to hear that you have such an understanding boss, very unusual. As for me i havent even started birthing classes, must ask the midwives about it tomorrow.

take care and enjoy your freedom

love

Hi All
And nice to catch up again too with Lisa, Julie and Jessica.

It really is the big and giddy stage! Lee took a pic of me pinned to the (armchair) at the weekend and its crazy how huge everything suddenly feels and looks! I look like a spread eagled fly pinned down, feel like there is someone pumping gas into me and inflating me! Any second and I'm going to take off!

Thanks for all the reassurance on the big baby, esp. saraid  , very well put.

Like everyone else I am just getting soooooooooo excited now! Everything just seems really slow motion, I really can't wait to meet her, and get to know the little person growing inside!

Ante natal classes still 3 weeks away for me (gulp) so hope there's no super early arrivals messing things up! Feels odd being heavily pregnant with still no ante natal classes, and the m/w doesn't discuss the birthing plan until week 36

DH will be with me at the birth (non negotiable!) he's already been present at 2 births, and helped deliver his sisters baby! So I have a pro in the room with me .... I hope!

Right off to check out your handy work in the nursery Kirsti :)

Keep well all.

Thanks for the kind words about the nursery!

Mel, let's see that picture of you! Funny how you described it.

Julie, so glad to hear you can get out now! I know you are enjoying that. I haven't packed my bag yet either...and no official list...but I do have a list in my head and good intentions to pack that bag any day now!

Tracii & Sue, yes I'm out of energy too. It's amazing how much my mind wants to accomplish, but my body just can't do it.

Lisa, glad you joined us again too! And congrats on confirming it's a girl!

Jessica, I think I already said welcome over here to you too! Glad we're all together again!

Ahart, glad to hear your shower was so much fun! I had one two weeks ago and another one this weekend too!

Bella, can't wait to hear how all goes with the awful m/w.

Sarareid, I like the way you described your healthy baby too!

Cla, what's new with you?

Did I mention everyone? All of a sudden there's lots of us on this thread again. Ya know, I was thinking yesterday that I'm so addicted to hearing from you all everyday, that it will be a bit sad in another month or so when we all have babies and have less time to post & talk. I suppose we can move to the "parents after treatment" forum and talk there, but it will probably be different as we'll all be so busy with our little ones. I'll miss our daily talks. Guess that means I like you all!!!

How is everyone doing? Getting ready for the big day??? Anyone nervous? I guess I am nervous because I just don't know what to expect. My doc said it is nothing like it is on TV. How bad is the pain when pushing the little ones? I was told when you do the big pushing this is the most painful but doesn't last long :?

I am feeling pretty good..but with waves of tiredness. Last night my tummy was crampy and sore this morning..not sure if I was experiencing BH contractions during the night or not....I also ate like cr@p yesterday so maybe Isabella was telling me something.

How are the classes going? Any good tips to be shared for delivery?

Tracii - I have also eaten a lot more crap recently too! I have heard that we crave crap so that our little ones put on all the weight they need before birth.

I haven't started my classes yet, but have read lots of active birth books, birth stories books, and talked to some midwives & friends. Of course, I have never given birth before, so I can't say first hand how good these tips are, but here are some things I have heard --

- Drink lots of water during labour. And not just little sips, but big gulps of water. Your partner should keep water in a cup with a bendy straw to make it easy for you to drink whenever you need - apparently it is very good during contractions.

- The toilet is your friend! Apart from clearing your bowels before you start pushing, I have heard it is a very good, private place, puts your body in a good position for your contractions & pain relief, and can even be a good place to start pushing, if you feel comfortable. Your midwife of course has to be there to catch the baby though! Also, your partner needs to keep reminding you to use the toilet, especially if you keep drinking water.

- Move around lots, and find the position that works for you for pain relief. If your hospital puts a monitor on you that restricts your movement, ask them if it is really necessary, or if they can use a portable doppler instead periodically, which still gives you freedom to move.

These are some of the main ones I heard - would love to hear if anyone else has some tips to share!
