Mid 2WW what do the progesterone and estrogen levels mean?

Post by KAW »

Hi,

I had ET on Saturday and am now in the midst of the 2ww. We ended up tranfering 2 after 5 days. I'll find out on Friday 9/29 if it worked. Anyway, I had blood work done yesterday and was told my Progesterone level is at 164.5 and my Estrogen Level is at 1365...and my RE was very happy with that. Does anyone have any insight into what that means? Thanks in advance. Take care, KAW

I was wondering the same thing...I just had my ET last Friday and went in for blood work this morning. My progesterone is only 55.8 and estrogen 794. I'm really not sure what it means. Wow, yours is a lot higher. Do you think mine are too low? I'm so confused!!!!

Hi there KAW :) at my clinic, my doc aims for progesterone to be at least 100, and estrogen to be above 1000. In my case the progesterone never hit 100, hovered around the 90 mark, but that was ok. :)

gmd, not sure if your units are the same, but my doc would have increased my estrogen/progesterone supplements. Perhaps you'd like to ask your doc abt your levels? but I guess every doc has his/her own protocol so maybe u just need to trust your doc?

Progesterone needs to be above some reasonable threshold in order to sustain the pregnancy (prevent menses). The progesterone level is always greater than the estradiol, but it might seem lower because it is measured in larger units. In the USA, progesterone is measured in ng/ml, while estradiol is measured in pg/ml. In Europe, they usually use pmol/l for estradiol. Not sure what they use for progesterone, perhaps nmol/l.

1 ng = 1000 pg

Our clinic uses 15ng/ml as the minimum for progesterone, although it's usually much greater.

Not sure what the estradiol is for.

Hi

Ghost and Rouge, thank you for your insights. It helps to have a benchmark to know what's good/bad.
GMD good luck! I'll be thinking of you. Take care, KAW
