Ok, I have a question for you guys. We did IVF previously and it was successful.

We are going down this road again and I got a call from the clinic today saying that the count was low on the analysis. Something about how they like it to be at least 20 million and it was only 9 million. SO, this time they want to do ICSI.

I was fine with it till I read on this site about the risk of ICSI (birth defects, abnormal embryos, ect) Now I am a little worried.

Anyone have some information on this for me? We didn't have to do this last time.

Thanks

Rachel, I think every clinic is different on recommending ICSI. My DH's last count was like 7m and when I mentioned ICSI, RE persuaded me against it. They only put 75 thousand sperm with each egg to get the egg fertilized so RE seems to think we'll be ok. Maybe your DH's count was just low on that day of the 9m count and will go back up next time so you don't have to think about it. Best of luck!

I don't think their doing another analysis so I think they are wanting to just do the ICSI. I'll ask Wed when I go for appt.

Question, hopefully not too graphic:
I havn't ever taken the pill except when we did IVF last time and I don't remember. How long after the last pill does it take to start? I took my last one yesterday and I have an appt Wednesday for US and trial transfer. I would HATE if I started late Tues or Wed being it's so heavy the first day, YUCK.

Lori and Cowgirl-SO glad your EC went well today. Congratulations on making through that hurdle! I hope that you are both feeling ok and I can't wait to hear about your embryos! It's nice to hear how well it went-I am still REALLY freaked out about this part of the process.

Hi Rachel-I am considering ICSI too. Not because of sperm count but our clinic lets you choose whether or not to do this. I am thinking about doing 1/2 and 1/2-I'll find out tomorrow whether they will do this or not. Earlier in this thread, I posted about doing that and a very nice girl came over from another thread to share her experience with doing ICSI (she did it 1/2 and 1/2 too). Anyway, tomorrow I go for my baseline appt and I am going to ask about the birth defects risks because that is a concern for me too. I'll post what I can find out.

As far as the period start, well, I took my last pill on Wed (9/20) and am only just starting my period tonight (9/25)-light spotting and am expecting the full deal tomorrow am . . . just in time for my appt. As you said YUCK! I am thinking it won't be as heavy as normal though as the bcp and Lupron must have some effect! Good luck to you!

Hi everyone

It is really early here 5.30am and I have been awake since 3.30am. I go for my ec in an hour and am trying to stay sane until then. I was determined I wouldn' t stress about it!!!

Jenn- try not to worry about the dosage, I started on 225 and they increased mine to 300 which meant 4 vials. I will do a follie dance for you - grow follies grow!!!

Rachael - I hope you are feeling better, I never suffer from headaches but the last few weeks I have probably had more than I've had in my whole life. Someitmes it would feel like a fuzzy hangover headache- but obviously it wasn't although I wished it was sometimes!!!

Jeck- I was so tired as well, I couldn't muster up the energy to do hardly anything and my poor little dog Archie is so used to his walks I couldn't even bothered to take him out!

Lori and Cowgirl - Congrats on the fab number of eggs. Cowgirl 7 is a great number don't forget it only takes one little darling to make all our dreams come true. I hope you are both taking it easy as you will need to do for the next 9 months!!!

Anyway must dash got an important date in an hour

Good Morning Everyone!

Haylie - Congratulations. 12 eggs is wonderful!!!!!! You must be so excited. Try to get some rest today and let your DH spoil you. Let us know how you are doing later.

Lori & Cowgirl - So glad your retrievals went well. How are you feeling today? Have you heard anything yet?

Rachel - I am doing 50%/50% ICSI/Regular IVF due to my husband's low motility/mobility (I forget which one it is). I also worry about any birth defects that it might cause but from what I read their is no clear evidence that the ICSI has an increase in birth defects. So I am going to take a leap of faith because that is what my RE suggests is the best thing to do.

Jen J - Please let us know what your RE tells you about birth defects and ICSI I would also love to know. I just got my AF while on Lupron and it was much heavier than it normally is but maybe because you are on BCP it will be lighter. It is so hard to predict how your body is going react to the meds.

How is everyone else doing on their stims?

As for me I am scheduled tomorrow at 7:30 to have my cyst removed. Hopefully I can start my stims on Friday. Please keep your fingers crossed.

I hope everyone is well.

All my best!

Haylie - Great Job! Get some rest today!

All - My RE called yesterday and told me to drink more water! So today I had a runny bowl of oatmeal and some fruit for breakfast followed by a huge bottle of water. I am keeping the water with me today and I hope I will avoid the headache today. I had my first E2 bloodwork drawn this morning to check how my stimming is going. I am anxious to hear from them. It seems like an eternity to get the little tab bits of info and then once you get them, you want more. Oh well, my retrivial is tentatively scheduled for Oct 4. I want this time to fly!!!!!!

Good luck to those of you with for retrivials coming up.

Sounds like everyone is doing good and headed in the right direction.

I am so excited to have my appointment tommorrow. I feel like I am finally getting somewhere. I have the initial appointment for trial transfer, US and bloodwork. I should start my stims Friday. I am just curious since AF hasn't come will it slow everything down? I will ask about it tommorrow.

I will have to ask about the 50/50 ICIS. They originally told me that the success rate is a little higher for fertilization since they are actually penetrating every egg. They know that everyone has been penetrated. Where as, when you put the eggs and all the sperm in a dish you just don't know.

Everything worked fine for us last time but his count was higher. I am also curious. We had had some drinks the weekend before the analysis. Could this have effected the count?

Any type of stress, no sleep, and so on can cause a dip in sperm count. I'm not sure about the alcohol unless it caused the above. It's very normal for the count to flunctuate each time you have a SA done. My DH's went from 7m to 36m back down to 13m. ???

hi Ladies,
sorry couldn't write yesterday was taking it easy staying in bed and all.

I got 8 eggs. Waiting for nurse to call me with the results on fertilization. I am so worried, we used frozen sperm and I am not sure how is it going to work and all. Does anyone have used the frozen sperm before with their fertilization?

EC was not bad at all. I was so worried the day before, didn't do my HCG on time ( as usual) always late with my my meds. Then while waiting in a pre op room , one of the doctors poped in. He was like due to your low dosage of gonal F we are probably will get 2 to 4 eggs in total, which is very unusual for your age ( I am 27). I started to freak out and my husband just tried to lighten me up by cracking jokes. So when later one of the nurses came to the room to get me prepared I was laughing my butt off. I guess it was nervious break down or something.
Anyways, it took them about 30 min to retrieve my eggs. Then I was in a recovery room for about 25 min. Thanks god no bleeding. A lil pain, not even a pain, just a discomfort -cramps....

I am glad everything went fine with you ladies too! My ET, if everything will be fine, will be on Thuesday as well.
