Hi Nance,

Wow, thank you so much for all those great tips, I have just saved that message in my documents so I can print it out later, we are staying just near Madison Square Gardens! we have never been before and are hoping to squeeze as much as possible in while we are there!
We are deffinatley going to central park and all the usual tourist places and my husband said he wanted to go to the Museum of Natural History! I wanted to do the boat tour and I have also read about a tv tour where you can visit the friends and will and grace sets so we are thinking of doing that too!
That is great advice about the shows, we wanted to dress up and go and see one but didn't know which to see so maybe we can do one of those you suggested!
Well we have still got three weeks before we go so I might post you before we come to check what the weather is like so I know what to pack! HaHa.
Thanks again for all you support and you valuable New York advice, I really appreciate it.
Take Care

New to this board...

Post by thook »

Hello Girls-

I'm new to this board (have posted a few boards on the other forum). I'm looking to chat and visit with some women that are going through the same thing as me right now. This is my first IVF cycle..... so this is all new to me.

I had my ET on Sept. 18th (we were able to get 23 eggs, 16 of which were mature and 12 of which fertilized). I then went in on Sept. 23rd for a day 5 transfer. So I'm on my 2ww right now... I was on bed rest for 4 days, actually going back to work tomorrow. I'm going in for my pregnancy test next week Tuesday Oct. 3rd. Anyone testing around that day???

On a side note this might be a silly question but I'm feeling some light cramping at times. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Tasha

My RE finally called. Out of 11, only 4 have fertilized. She said 2 more had ICSI today as they were too immature yesterday (didn't know this was possible to do a day later!). So, I could have up to 6, but for sure 4 right now. I'm disappointed in the low #'s since I started with 11 eggs, but I know that I have enough to get the job done. So in that respect, I am pleased. Last time I had 4 transferred and had twin gestation before my m/c. Now I anxiously await the call tomorrowafternoon to hear about how they are doing before the ET on Thurs. It's such a rollercoaster ride!!!! I try not to get worked up about it, but it's so easy to get caught up in #'s and stats and just wanting more when it's really quality that counts. Wishing all of you good luck with stims/ ET.

I am headed out tonight for dinner with DH - I think I'll have a margarita as it could be my last for a long time (hopefully).

Hi All!

CONGRATS to you guys with the embryos! I'm so excited for you!

Cheekeymonkey-I am so sorry that your cycle has been delayed till November. Hang in there; I can't wait to hear your BFP news in Nov!

Racheal-SO SORRY with unsupportive and insensitive things your family said to you about your IVF. It is so frustrating how insensitive people can be. I have had some really terrible comments said to me over the years during our infertility and adoption; it is really hurtful and hard to understand. There are some people that I want to tell to review what they are going to say prior to opening their mouths. You have every right to make the choices that are right for you. I have no doubt that you are a fabulous mom and that you will be a fabulous mom to another child or children-however many you decide to have. Only you and your dh can make that decision and other people's opinions are just that-their opinions. You are following your heart and you should be proud of that!

As for me, I went to my appt today and all my cysts from our last IUI cycle are gone so I start stims tomorrow am! They said that my ER will be as soon as 10/7 but I won't know until I return next week for a follow up to check on my follies! So here I go . . . !!!

I did ask about ICSI and the risk of birth defects or other problems. They said something that made sense to me: Birth defects are caused by genetic problems. There isn't any evidence that ICSI or IVF for that matter causes increased risk of birth defects. There may be a higher incidence of birth defects in people that have these procedures versus those that conceive naturally. However, at this point, it is not pinpointed to the treatments specifically as the cause. There is a thought that perhaps there are potential genetic problems in place with either partner and IVF or ICSI overcomes them to create a pregnancy that might not occur naturally. This could be why there is a slightly higher risk of birth defects for IVF or ICSI patients. Does this make sense? Ultimately, they don't see a risk with doing ICSI-any more than doing IVF. We have decided to go 50/50. I would do all ICSI but as this is our first IVF I want to see what happens when our sperm and egg meet but also still have a backup ICSI plan if they don't get along very well on their own!

Whew long post! Wish me luck for my first stims tomorrow! We are more doubling what I have done during IUIs so we'll see what happens!

Good luck to all!

Jeck - that is a fab number of follies, you are well on your way now!!!

Cheekeymonkey - your trip to NY will get you thru the next month, you'll have a fab time I love it over there. If you have time you must visit Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District, I loved it. You MUST go to the bakery in Greenwich Village I can't remember the name of it perhaps Nance will know?, they have the best cupcakes you have ever tasted in your life!! We went on a Sat nite about 2am and there were bouncers on the door, so surreal!! This is a bakery not a club it really is the best. You can also catch the Stattan Island Ferry which is free and you can just go over and straight back but you can get some fab photos of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. Also if you can visti Little Italy and China Town I had better stop now cos I could go on and on, I just love NY. Enjoy yourself.

Lori - glad you are managing to keep some PMA, it does only take one little darling to make your dreams come true so don't be dismayed.

Jen- I'm so glad your cyst have gone, I bet that is a weight off your mind. Good luck with the stimms, you are finally on your way!

As for me I'm really excited cos the hosp just phoned and 10 out of the 12 eggs have fertilised and ET has been arranged for Fri at 10am

hi everyone, haven't posted for while but just thought i'd see if anyone has got any advice. i have just come back from EC and am feeing a bit upset. during the procedure, the doc hit a blood vessel and we had to stop collecting as i was not lookng too good after loosing a lot of blood(sorry to scare anyone whose not got to this stage yet). anyway, they only got 3 follicles but all have eggs in. it's just such a shame as i had loads more to be collected!! going to find out tommorrow if any of them are good to go back in on friday :(
has anyone had a low EC any good news resulting fro it??? im also worried as i thought we would have had a few to freeze if it didn't work rather than start all over again :(

Gina-

I'm so sorry to hear your news... being that it's my first time doing IVF I don't know that much about it. Although I have read many of posts about people having small numbers and still getting BFP's.

Your in my thoughts & prayers...
