The sub q shots are a peice of cake. I did all mine in my stomache--and hardly felt anything. The IM shot for the progrestrone aren't bad but they are definetly not something that i would choose to do. : ) The whole ivf process is very scary--what i did was wrote up a calendar for my whole cycle starting with my birth control pills until our first ultrasound and hung in on the fridge---it seemed to help me visualize each step and know your next procedure is X amount of days away. Try to relax as much as possible and good luck.
Side note--not sure if it is normal or not. But, i got horrible hot flashes while i was on lupron and i lost alot of hair using it. When i would brush my hair it would fill up my brush and i was leaving stray hairs everywhere around the house. Both those things have stopped now that i am off lupron.

Lupron Effects

Post by MidwifeMom »

Welcome! I am due to start Lupron next Wednesday and I too am scared and overwhelmed by all of this. I work in the OB/GYN field and I can tell you Lupron shuts down part of your brain essentially tricking it into believing you are in an artifial state of menopause. Fun, huh?? I teach nursing students as well. Tell your husband the shot thing will get easier. The subq shots are pretty easy and difficult to "mess up." Hang in there. Baby prayers your way......

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Post by peace4all2c »

THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND TIPS:) IT IS NICE TO HAVE A SUPPORT GROUP. TODAY I HAVE FELT QUITE SICK TO MY STOMACH, HOWEVER I AM DOING ALRIGHT. I AM JUST SENSITIVE TO ALL MEDICATIONS. I AM DEFINATELY GOING THROUGH ALOT EMOTIONALLY. I HAVE AN ANXIETY DISORDER, AND I AM ALMOST OFF MY MEDICATION FOR THAT. I AM UNDER DR.'S ORDER AND CARE ON THAT ISSUE. I AM DOING WHAT IS SAFE AND I AM HOPING I CAN HANDLE ALL OF THE ANXIETY THAT COMES ALONG MY WAY. I HAVE NEVER WANTED ANYTHING MORE IN MY LIFE, AND I WILL CONQUER THIS "DISORDER" THAT HAS BEEN WEIGHING ME DOWN ALL THESE YEARS. I AM HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO GO OFF MY MEDS.... HOWEVER TERRIFIED AS WELL. SO FAR SO GOOD. MANY PRAYERS ARE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU.

Hi and welcome aboard! I just started my first cycle of IVF Labor Day wknd & had 3 embryos implanted yesterday. YEAH!!! I am THE BIGGEST CHICKEN when it comes to needles. My first 2 Lupron shots I had enough on my hands just drawing up all the meds and handling the needles so my husband injected them. (I did try though). By the third Lupron shot I was able to do it myself, and it was really easy after that. It's breaking through the skin that's tough. I did all of my Lupron shots in my belly. I did have hubby inject the Follistim because I was using the pen and had some trouble with that. We did those in my thigh. My first IM shot hurt -- the HCG. Not when DH injected it, but about 5 minutes afterwards (and a few days later it was still a little sore). The other IM shots haven't hurt, just a really quick "pinch"....not even afterwards. No soreness at all. Someone told me not to ice my bottom first (that it would hurt less). I was too scared to try that. Been icing all locations before the shots and haven't had any problems.

By the way, the meds will make you a bit bloated. So will the expansion of the follicles once they start. Nothing major, but I definitely noticed. The last few days before the follicles were removed I felt like a pregnant person trying to get out of chairs, etc. I felt like I couldn't, or was afraid to used my tummy muscles. I also felt like I looked a little preggers but wasn't, so raid your closet for some baggy stuff or shirts you can wear untucked with jackets/sweaters on top so you won't worry so much about that. My boobs seemed to expand a bit too, but that was welcome. Just like they get a bit bigger around the time of your period. Once the follicles were out nearly all the bloatedness from the meds was gone. I'm wearing a "skinny" skirt today.

I picked up 3 books from the library before starting my IVF and it really helped me. One was about the history of IVF and how it all started "Pandora's Baby", one was Brooke Shields "Down Came the Rain" (which I actually went back re-read my first week of IVF) and Jane Seymour's "Two at a Time". All 3 helped me understand the history & process. Although Brooke & Jane are celebrities it helped me alot since there's no one to turn to to ask questions.

I wish you the best of luck! Keep posting your questions.
