has anyone had a hysteroscopy??

Post by hellokitty »

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to know has anyone had a hysteroscopy? I'm having one in a few days due to a recent miscarriage. Can anyone tell me anything about their experience...painful, findings? I'm scared to death at this point but also looking forward to eliminating any issues.

Thanks for any info!

I had one in Jan 06 to prepare for IVF. The procedure itself was painless because I had what is called 'conscious sedation'. Basically, IV Versed which knocks you out pretty well, but it's not a full anesthesia like many of us get with the ER. I did have a biopsy performed, which was somewhat painful after I woke up and I used a heating pad and took advil for the next day, but it all was fine after that.

Best of luck to you and ask if you can bring warm socks to wear during the procedure to keep your feet warm. My doctor allowed it, which was nice.

I had it done back in May along with a ligation in preparation for IVF. I was unconscious during the process and woke up feeling a little crampy. I was out of work for the week, but by day 3, I was certainly feeling more like myself. I think fI just has the hysterscopy,I would have been mobile a lot sooner. Good luck!

Hi Kiesha:

Its Jackie A. here. It is so good to hear from you. I had a hystroscopy done in 2005 due to a polyp they saw during IUI cycle. I was completely sleep during the procedure and when I wok up I felt really good. Honestly I did not have much pain at all. They did give me some pain killer but I really didn't have to use much. I stayed home for couple of days and I was back to work. Of course everyone is different but my expereince was not bad.

What are your future plans if you dont mind me asking. Good luck and I am happy to hear from you.

Hi Ladies,

Thanks so much for your feedback. I found out that I will be put to sleep, which is good to know because I am a total wussie :P !!

Suzhan - thanks for the sock tip....my dr said it would be okay.

Jackie A. - Its good to hear from you too! My HCG level just went under 5 (long journey since July, huh??) so we are going to try again in December with our frozen embies!! I'm gettting excited again. So, once we do all the blood work and this test, we can move forward and hopefully get things started in late December. How are things with you?

Hi Kiesha, I had a hysteroscopy 2 yrs ago. I had it to check my tudes and to remove a fibroid. I was in hospital for 2 days. Had an incision in my belly button and 3 tiny cuts on my bikini line. I didn't find the pain bad - my periods are worse! I did suffer from wind pains in my shoulder!!! Sounds very bizarre but it's because they blow up your tummy and the air makes it way up to your shoulders. i thought i was having a heart attack!! Wind-Eze settled it. Good luck. Paula x

You sure that wasn't a laparoscopy? I thought hysterscopy was done via cervix.

Hi Kiesha:

Glad to hear things are better for you now. You must be excited to start in December. I hear a lot of sucess with FET on this board. I am real happy for you.

As for me I have been trying to take it easy and just start it trying on our own for a while and see what happens. This is a really a busy time of the year for me (work) lots of traveling and stress for the next few months.

I don't post much but I check the board everyday and was real happy to see a post from you.

Lets stay in touch and best of luck with your FET.

Take care
Jackie A.
