Progesterone Shots

Post by Malinka »

Dear Ladies and Ghost,
I have some concerns about progesterone shots. Waas reading a patient info for my progesterone in oil 50ml and it actually says there "since progesterone or progesterone like drugs may induce mild masculinization of the external genitalia of the female fetus, as well as hypospadias in the male fetus, it is wise to avoid uing the drug during the first trimester of pregnancy"
I didnt' mean to scary you girls but I am so confused, maybe somebody addressed that issue to their Doctor? Ghost?

I did not know that. Surprising, given the way it is routinely used during the first trimester.

Also, I'm almost certain some progesterone treatments are FDA approved for early pregnancy. Crinone, for example.

Ghost, I know, I am surprised as well.
I found some light, the defects do happen unfortunatelly, but I guess it worth the risks... Can you please find out more at your clinic?

I have exactly the same concern and even posted the question about it on the forum before. I am also taking estrace pills which have the same kind of warning....
Good luck to all,

I also read too much...
Lupron is a drug category X by FDA which means causes birth defects.
Everything we are taking has side effects....
My parents' friend, who is a gyno, told me not to read the leaflets because what they write there is so rare, the drug companies do that just to protect themselves from the lawsuits. If something happened once, they have to put there, just in case. Well, I didn't follow my parents friend's advice and read all leaflets that came with the meds. Now i'm paranoid.... but trying not to think about it because once you made a decission to go with the IVF, you need to do what you have to do - take all the meds.

The leaflet in my progesterone said those same things about the birth defects, as well as that there is "no evidance that it prevents miscarriges" which I thought was interesting since - isn't that why we're taking it?
