Laparoscopy questions

Post by Cori »

I found out last week that our 2nd IUI attempt failed so, we now will be proceeding with the laparoscopy. I am really scared because my doctor is going to try to remove the scar tissue form my right tube and reconstruct it if need be. He also will be doing work on my right ovary which appears to (via ultrasound) have a cyst and scar tissue on it due to an ectopic pregnancy that I had 19 months ago. Has anyone been through similar? Could someone tell me what to expext? How long is the recuperation time? Is there pain? Does it increase my chances of conceiving afterwards? I am set to have the procedure done on 10/20.

Hi cori....
that is so exciting...i wish i could have this kind of thing done (im too far gone) so i would say go for it. by doing it via Lap they are causing less scar tissue afterwards unlike the ops i had in the old days that actually left me worse off than before....
pain wise in its self it isnt too bad i had three very small scars two near where the ovarys are and one in my belly button the only thing that got me was the pain from wind....no kidding it felt like they had duffed me up during the surgery... you will know if its wind pain it will hurt when you take a deap breath...that actually as painful as it is moves the wind....and it doesnt last long...as for recovery im sure they will tell you when to try yourself but its not too long obviously depends on the amount they do...

wishing you so much luck and a big belly very soon...Aunty

Cori

i have also had the lap work to unblock one of my tubes last year. Initally when it was found to be blocked 10 years ago I was told there was no hope but my consultant now is excellant and he thought it was worth the go. The procedure went well and both tubes are now open, altough we still had to go through IVF in the end because DH's sperm are not excellant.

The worst pain after the op was the wind as Aunty described. I got it in my shoulder and it was pretty bad for a few hours, but they gave me morphine which took most of it away. It took me a few days to feel better and 2 weeks before I could work again. That was because mine is a physical job and if you are sat at a desk all week I think you can go back after a few days.

Good luck with the op and if you have any more questions please ask.

Hi

I agree with the others about the wind pain, I had it really bad in my shoulder but they give you pain killers. They removed one of my tubes and tried to unblock the other one and because of this the recooperation period was longer, I was off work for 4 weeks but physically I probably could've gone back after 3. I did find it quite painful walking for a while but as long as you rest and take the painkillers you'll be fine. You just have to take it easy and look after yourself. My Dr told me that by removing my tube obviously it reduces my chances of naturally conceiving by 50% but increases the chances of IVF working. I had never had general anaesthetic before or any kind of op and was very anxious but it was fine.

Hope it goes well
Take care
Haylie

Hi Cory. I had a lapo and hysteroscopy 2 yrs ago at the same time. I had 3 tiny cuts - belly button (hated it can't stand anything near my belly button and it got infected ouch!) and the rest on my bikin line. I suffered more pain with AF's than with the op. The only pain i had was the same as the girls - pain in my shoulder. I thought i was having a heart attack. I'm glad i had the op coz they can see if there's anything that's stopping you from getting the BFP! Good luck. Paula x :lol
