Post-transfer questions

Post by brit10 »

My Day 5 transfer is scheduled for tomorrow. I'm expected back at work on Wednesday.

My job involves long commutes and standing on my feet 4 or 5 hours at a time. My boss puts a lot of pressure on me, so I feel almost constant stress and anxiety. I'm afraid of asking for any more time off (I've only had to take 2 days off so far), but I also don't want to screw up my chances of a BFP because of work. My husband thinks I should take off the whole two weeks, but my boss will lose her mind.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I totally understand you. My day transfer is Tuesday, and I am a teacher and it is hard to take a lot of time off too. I took 2 days last week and I am taking 2 days after the transfer. This is my first IVF, so I do not know how I am going to feel either. I was hoping that it would have been a transfer over the weekend, but it did not work out that way. If your boss know about the IVF cycle, she/he might be more understanding, you never know unless you mention it.

My advice is to get another job, or at least, get away from that one. Stress is not worth it.

I doubt being on your feet is a problem for embryo implantation. But the extra stress could be. Besides, my experience is that no amount of money could make a stressful job worthwhile.

Jen,

Actually, my boss DOES know. She has been through secondary infertility herself and has had several failed IUI cycles. Her coldness during this process has really hurt me (she actually asked me when my period was due, and sent me 7 emails at home on the day of my ER!)

Ghost,

You sound like my husband. Believe it or not, this is just a part-time (20 hours a week) deal. But it pays really well and I like my job...just not my boss.

Brit10,
I am so sorry to hear that your boss is so insincere. I agree with ghost on this one too. Money is not everything. I guess I would look at it as: which is more important your job or having a baby. If you can finacially make it for awhile with your husband's salary, then consider leaving. Another option is to talk to your boss and tell her how you feel about her insincerity.

I'm not sure if I was clear. I've read 4 studies on bed rest after transfer, and none of them found a positive correlation. So I would not be too concerned about being on your feet.

However, I've seen two studies that found a negative correlation between stress levels and IVF success. More stress = lower chance of pregnancy.

luv, i kinda had that thought too. she's 10 years older then i am, so i've got a little more fertile "time" left then she does and i think that bothers her.

i don't like lying AT ALL, but that's what i've had to do to deal with her. i told her they were doing my transfer last saturday (it was done monday) so i wouldn't have to work that day. i also just told her that i have a follow-up appointment with my doctor on 10/20 and so can't work at all that day- which is actually the day of my pregnancy test. i just don't want to be at work when they call me with my results.....i want to be home with my husband. somehow i just didn't think she would understand that.

Hello all! I have been very fortunate through this whole process. My husband got a new job about a year and a half ago and it not only pays very well (so I don't have to work), but it has killer insurance and pays 100% for infertility. I did go through some minor infertility procedures in the past where I had to deal with an employer and it was h*ll. I agree that if you can at least temporarily handle it financially, I would take a leave of absence or something. There isn't a job out there that can't be replaced, or that is worth not getting pregnant (or losing a baby) because you are so stressed out.

I have taken 2 weeks off

Post by bekkie31 »

Hi there,

I know it is easy for me to say, but I have taken the full 2 weeks off. I worked for the first three injections of menogon that I had, then as it started to get near the egg collection date I got a sick note from the doctor for two weeks. I have an office job and at the moment they are experiencing the most busy time ever and are desperate for help because they are so busy. However I decided this is my life, and as I am paying 2,000 plus Euros on this IVF treatment (this is my first attempt ) I do not want to increase the chances of a failure. I can tell you now that I got the best satisfaction feeling ever when I went to work yesterday and handed-in my sickness certificate. Quite frankly it is none of their business why I am sick, how much time I need to recover - a note from my doctor is enough - what happens in my private life is none of their business. I was just under so much stress in the office I had to ensure I was written off. Plus, I am getting nausea feeling in the stomach as a slight side-effect of menogon. So in a way I am sick. IVF is one of the most stressful things anyone can go through and at the end of the day you are having medical treatment - so to be written off sick is ok.

Luv bekki :D

Working during this process has helped me take my mind off things...especially now since I'm in the 2ww. The progesterone shots are making me CRAZY, I can't sleep and everything is HUGE...so work is a good distraction right now.

If this doesn't work this time  and we have to try again, then I will a) not tell anyone but family we're doing this and b) take more time off.

I hardly ever see my boss, so that's the good part. And right now she's on vacation so I haven't had to talk to her on the phone or via email in a couple days. I work Wednesday thru Saturday, so I just have to get through today and I've got a wonderful 3 days off! Then two more days of work and then the pregnancy test. The waiting is the worst!!
