Recurrent miscarriages

Post by Hilting »

Hello

Has anyone here experienced recurrent miscarriages with IVF? I've just had two in a row (at 6-7 weeks), and I'm now going through the blood tests - (antiphospholipid, karyotype and NK cells). I expect age is also a factor as I'm 39. I had an ectopic more than 3 years ago, and the problem doesn't seem to be about getting pregnant, it's holding on to the pregnancy.

Any views, experiences?

Thank you.

Hiya,

I've had 2 with IVF. One at 8.5 weeks and one at 5 weeks. I also had one at 14 weeks ten years ago but this was a natural pregnancy. I'm not doing any tests as they were different types of miscarriages too and they said it was only if it was the same they would be interested in investigating further.

If I do get pregnant and lose again then I will be having some tests done like you.

I hope it works out for you and you have a baby soon.

Hi,

I'm sorry for your lost, I know how you feel. I've had 2 m/c. One was from a natural (not medicated) pregnacy and the other was after IVF. But both were very early losses (8 wks and 5 wks). We are doing blood tests and a hystercopy (sp??) I feel all doctors doing IVF should let every woman go through this type of testing. We have a invested a lot of emotions, time, and money to try to have our babies, so I think it should be a no brainer to do all this up front.

I had a m/c in May after my first IVF cycle. Since I only had one, the doctor said I really didn't need to have the tests done yet but he left the choice up to me. I went ahead and had them done. I wanted to know if something was wrong before I tried again. Everything came back fine, but it was worth the money to know that for sure.

Good luck with your testing!

I am starting by stating how sorry I am for your loss.

Next, I have had 6 early m/c during the 5 years I tried to have my two sons. It was hard and very trying, but that was what happened. Once my second son was born, I had my tubes tied so I didn't have to go through that again. When I approached a RE for my IVF, the first thing they did was run a bunch of tests. It turns out I have MTHFR and I was positive for clotting problems. I also had high FSH which suggested POF. I was told that the blood clotting was my issue. I am not sure yet if this is true, but it made sense.

They do their best, but these tests and their results can leave you upset, so make sure they offer some sort of counseling for you when they are done.

Good luck and I am praying for you.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. Hopefully, in the new year, I will have good news.

Best wishes to all.

I too am very sorry for your losses and wish you the best in the future.

Just to add another '2 cents', my doctor had genetic testing done after my m/c and it showed trisomy - basically an extra chromosome #14. He attributed this to my age but also said it wasn't likely to re-occur. I pray you won't have this happen again, but if you do, you might wish to consider genetic testing to see what may be causing the m/c.

Again, I wish you a brighter future ahead and healing for your loss.
