Hey everyone,
I don't reply much but I do read the forums a lot. I was just wondering if anyone has had Pgd testing of if it was ever suggested by your doctors? My dh and I went in for our post IVF visit with our doctor because it had failed and he said that my cytoplasm around my eggs looked grainy and he said he thinks that is why we aren't getting pregnant. So he suggests having this genetic testing done to see which or if any eggs are defective for the next attempt. My insurance doesn't cover it and it is quite expensive. I was just wondering if it is worth it this time or should we wait? He is changing my meds. around to try to produce healthier eggs. I'm only 29 and only had 8 retrieved from last cycle. He said that someone my age should be producing more. Any suggestions or comments would help. Thanks. G
Hi gmd,
I am not sure what pdg testing is, but we failed our 1st attempt in August this year becuase half of my eggs never had the 'shell' around them and some were not formed, could you tell me what a pdg test is, as the doctor could not give us any answers why, never seen anything like this before only one other case logged on the web. The doctor did say he would try me on different meds to next cycle, but any info would be great.
thanks xx
PGD testing is a kind of genetic testing that they do on the embryos. They take a cell from each one after fertilized and send it off to a lab in another state. You will hear within 48 hours which embryos are defected and which ones are not. My doc. said that maybe 50% of my eggs are "bad" and that is causing them not to implant. So if we get this testing done they will only use the best of the best. It still doesn't guarantee it will work. But he said that we will need to be emotionally prepared because they could call us and say that none of the embryos are "good" enough. We are still deciding. From what I read, it says that you should think about this after a few failed cycles. My doc. is also trying to change my meds. this time too to produce healthier eggs. Good luck. Hope this helps. I'm not an expert about this. It's from what I've ready. G
