Aunty we do the needle over the hand regardless of whether you are pregnant or not and it will let you know every pregnancy you will have. You hold it still and it either goes round (girl) or side to side (boy). Then you stop it until it goes again and you keep going until it stops completely without going again. A few years ago mine went round 7 times before it came to a stop. I've lost two babies so according to that every child I've conceived has been a girl!

I go for my scan on the 26th and because we all really want to know it will have it's leg crossed! One thing's for sure, it's going to be a baby!! lol

Hey preggers Ladies!!!

You guys are making me giggle at all your old wives tales!!! So I had to give mine too!!! My mom always says that you carry a girl all out front and a boy you gain weight all over like around your back area!! So funny!!! It is usually true, but when I was preggers last time I gained weight all over and she was for sure it was going to be a boy, but it was a girl ,that had a heartbeat of 160 and I was not sick .... so there you go!!!

I am so ready to be on this thread!!!!! Gosh, this week is going to go by so slow.......

Have a great one ladies!!!!!

Hi Ladies

I love all of the tales. So far I have been really sick and DH drinks kronenberg so it looks like a girl. I am going to try the needle thing in a bit while I am lying down killing time after my pessary. I am not sure DH will be that impressed as he is convinced it is going to be a boy. Are any of you going to find out the sex at your scans. I don't think I want to as it will give me a surprise to look forward to after the birth. Also most small baby clothes are unisex so it won't matter if we don't buy any pink or blue clothes before the baby is born.

I have got my booking appointment with my GP on Thursday morning to bring him upto date with the results of the IVF. I guess that will also be when I find out about midwifes etc. Then next Tuesday I have got my first scan which I am really nervous about as that was the scan 10 years ago that I found out at that I had miscarried. I will be glad when that is over with. At the moment I feel every twinge and worry about it. Tonight I stoped feeling sick for the first time in over a week so I started worrying if everything is still alright.

i have just finished reading The Best Friends Guide to Pregnancy which is a great read. I couldn't believe how many differences there are between pregnancy care in the UK and in the USA. i can recomend the book though as it is a very light hearted read but still has loads of useful info in it.

Take care everyone
Angela

Hi gals. Just got back from another scan (I get lots of them cause I am high risk). The baby looks good. Measuring right on target. The heartbeat is 153.

So...here is my wives tale input.

I have two boys. With those pregnancies I felt nothing. Pretty good. Tired in the first, not so tired in the second. Not sick with either. Heartbeat with first boy was 140. Second boy was 180.

This one (which we know is a girl) heartbeat 153. And I am SICK SICK. I have not puked...but I feel like it at all times. I have lost weight (with boys gained right away). With my boys I carried them both right in front. Don't know about this one yet.

This pregnancy is doing a number on me hormonally. The anxiety (chemically induced from pregnancy) is brutal. I am really suffering. I have had to start taking Zoloft (an SSRI). It is scary to think about taking in the pregnancy but I have had no choice. I can't sleep, or eat...and can't take care of my other children. I am a mess with anxiety. It sucks. So now I am worried about the zoloft affecting the baby. But the doctors said the anxiety is actually harmful to the baby as well. So hopefully the medication will work and I'll start feeling better. I had this happen with my first baby and the meds did not affect him and they really helped me...but I did not take them til second trimester that time.

Sorry to be a bit of a downer...but I had to share with ssomeone what I am going through.

Thanx for listening.

Zirly - I am not surprised that anyone is getting anxious with all of the hassle we have to go through with IVF, and then the constant worrying that the baby will be alright. It is enough to send you to drink. Try to relax if you can and trust the doctors. If they think the meds are safe and they will help then I would take them. Just remember that we are here to help share any of your fears.

To everyone. Well i have tried the ring thing and it says a boy, but the sickness and strong beer say a girl so I am confussed. Maybe it will be twins one of each would be nice, although a handful I should imagine.

Take care
Angela

I've been thinking, the beer theroy may not work in this case as DH really cut back for a month before to maximise our chances of success but then the ring does say girl! lol I think I'm thinking too much!

With all my girls my weight gain in pregnancy has been between 30lb to 70lb. This one I've already put on 40lb but then I'm diabetic and taking so much insulin, which makes you hungry which makes you eat which makes you take more insulin! lol

Angela when's your first scan? I have four girls and have never been sick but you are usually pretty sick if you have multiples. Where we are we have our booking in appointment with the midwife between 10 and 14 weeks. That one is nice as you get all your baby leaflets and stuff to read.

When we go through IVF we are seen so often at the clinic, we are monitored a few times a week etc then when we get our BFP's it like an anticlimax as no one wants to see you until about 10 weeks, then it's not for another 4-6 weeks. Apparently it's the conceiving that's the problem then when you're pregnant you are no different from anyone else - according to my midwife anyway!

Zirly I hope you feel better soon. Even without IVF and other complications people get low days during pregnancy. Don't beat yourself up over it. Tomorrow is another day. I'm sure they wouldn't put you on medication if they didn't feel it really necessary. I have crohns disease (as well as diabetes) which has flared up with this pregnancy (it went into remission with the others) so I'm on a 10 week course of steriods. I've been so worried about the effects it could have on the baby but they have told me that not taking them could cause the baby more harm than taking them.

I hope the rest of you are great. I'll be off now, I've mubbled on enough for one day!

Take care

Jo

Hey lovely ladies,

Just popping in to say hello, and to say i miss u all, but i am also so glad u've all buggered off to this new thread (if u get my drift hehe)

Jemma: If u want a cheesecake - u go have one girl, it will do u NO harm as everyone else has said. Im on a diet so the talk of cheese and cake and then put together is driving me potty, i'll just go and fetch some more lettuce to keep me going ........

Aunty: Ha ha ha at ur posting about larger and sex and girls (OOO ive just read that back it sounds terrible LOL) but u know what i mean - so if u have loads of sex u get girls then???? Well ive got 2, and i wasnt a goer (if u know what i mean lol) Mind u, i might have been it was that long ago ....

Ooooo I love these stories lol....

Jeck: Ur mom is right - when i had my 2 girls i was all front - mind u i havent had no boys so wouldnt know which way i carried then lol. But from experiance of friends having baby boys, i do beleive that is true. Altho i wasnt sick once on my two pregnancies, i had loadssss of heartburn on the first one in the last couple of mths and she had a mop of hair, the other one i still had loadsss of heartburn, and she was balled as a coot! lol

Zirly: Aww hun, i really hope ur feeling better soon - this is the worst time of pregnancy and it will pass soon i promise u. I know u dont feel much like it now, but u will feel better and then u can start enjoying ur pregnancy as u should :D

Angela: Hiy hun, how are you? How is the sickness going with you? Is it getting any better? Hey - after doing ur ring test - maybe u are having twins - wouldnt that be great - double trouble - and double the love, hugs and kisses you will get from them - heaven :D

Malinka: I too hope u will be joining these lovely ladies soon - im hoping to be right here with u too - fingers crossed and good luck hun xx

Pebbles: I loved getting those baby books and leaflets from the clinic - i loved getting weighed (honestly i did - not anymore tho - the novelty has worn off lol) do u still get the baby packs - its been 16 yrs since i last got them and wasnt sure if they did them anymore - oh lovely thats something else 4 me to look fwd to then :D roll on when im officially a member here lol .....
