Hi Girls,
first of all congratuluations to all of you on your fantastic news. It gives the rest of us hope that one day our dreams may come trua also. I havent't posted for a while but love reading the boards. I am about to start ICSI cycle number two and am determined thst this time it is going to work, when I had my first go I thought that if I prepared myself for the fact that it might not work at each step of the process then I wouldn't feel as bad if it didn't work but in the end it didn't make any difference - I was still devastated. So this time around I have decided to be positive, posistive, positive!!

Anyway to get to the point, I have decided to try and maximise my chances this time. I have read many posts from people who have tried acupuncture, reflexology, supplements, baby aspirin, no baths after ET etc. What I would really lke to know from all you posisitves is do you have any tips or anything you did which you think made a difference to your treatment ?

Look forward to hearing from you...

Love Julie.

PS Do you take baby aspirin befrore your treatment or only after egg transfer?
hi julie

I tested positive last week and I would share every secret tip I had if I could help make you ALL pg!!! this was my second tmt and I took the devastation of my first really badly. so I started of with as PMA as possible, but each stage was worse than the time before, we only got 6 eggs whereas first time we got 14, we only had 4 fertilise whereas we had had 8 before. They were only grade 2.5 & 3 whereas before when it hadn't worked they were grade 2 - so by the time ET came I'd already written the whole bloody thing off as a waste of £3k!!!!

But look what happened, so my first bit of advice would be no matter how many eggs you get, how poor the quality of embies it CAN still work!!!!

I did these things differently and am convinced some/all must have made a difference:

Reflexology (Avoiding stimulating the ovaries and I stopped after ET, but I know some girls do carry on throughout).
After ET I lay down on the bed for 20 mins.
I held off going to the loo immediately after ET.
No chocolate
No caffeine - nescafe gold blend decaf is the same as normal.
No alcohol - Kaliber is nice if you feel like a beer!
No Baths
No perfume, deodrant, shower gel etc
75mg Aspirin daily after ET
Sanatogen Pregnecare daily
A minimum of 8 pints of water
Lots of rest - especially the second week, I had an afternoon nap most days!
No lifting
No housework!
AND LOTS OF PERCY PIGS!!!!

I hope this helps, but I guess different things work for different people. I know, like you, for my second go I wanted to try ANYTHING!

I'll keep my fingers crossed and if I can help with anything else, just ask!!

love nikola.xx
Hi Julie,

I tested positive for the first time in aug on our 4th ICSI. We have been for a scan and are expecting twins!! (its early days, I am nearly 10 weeks so we are keeping are fingers crossed.)

Anyway I know what you mean about thinking it wont work - I did this on the first 3 attempts, just so I wouldn't be too upset when I got a negative.

On my 4th go I went and had reflexology a week before e/c (twice) and also the night before e/t. The lady that did it said I had to stay positive otherwise it wouldn't work, I had to imagine the embryos implanting themselves. Everytime I felt negative I had to look at an orange spot (and wear orange, t shirt underwear etc..)

I didn't drink any alcohol
I didn't have any baths (still don't, just incase!!!)
I took baby asprin 75mg (I hadn't done this on my other goes) I started taking it a couple of weeks before e/c and am going to continue until 12 weeks.
I drank lots of water.
I took folic acid
I took 1 week of work (on my other goes I took the whole 2weeks off)

I didn't have any pains or symptoms (or bleeding like some positive girls) so the day before I was due to test I was preparing myself for the worst (the orange spot didn't work then)
I was sooooooooooo shocked when when we got a positive ( I still can't really belive it!!)

Like I said I am nearly 10 weeks and still have no symptoms, so there are no rules, it'll happen when its supposed to.

GOOD LUCK with ICSI no2 Ill keep my eye on you and make sure you're staying POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care

Sharon GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGg
This is probably the most stupid question asked on the board but what is baby aspirin??? Normal aspirin for children?? Sorry very thick I know. What is that supposed to do? I have never heard of taking that before.

Congratulations Sharon and Nikola I hope you both enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

Love L x
hi all,
i have also got another question for you {please be honest with me} i have AF pains all the time and have to take paracetamal. als pains in lower back and sore boobs{rem they are naturally bigger than jordans ,-so how painfull can they be}.also other signs of AF coming along, should i rest more? am i going to get AF? also had discharge? is that emby gone? also feeling really heavy down below and have to shuffle rather than walk..
i am now worried that it will all be over before it starts..
any help????
love jackieT xxx
p.s my clinic have advised against baby aspirin, as they say trials are going on at the moment and are inconclusive.

[Edited by JackieT on 28-Sep-03 01:29]
Jackie T
Please don't worry about AF we all have had AF pains and apparently it's the embies bury into the wall, then all the mussels in your womb start to relax and move around, so there will be a lot of funny things you have never had, best not to worry as this will give you _vibes, you must think POSS lots of PMA, things are not over untill you know......!!!
Anyway tips
I never bathed.....but did shower.
No drinking wine, sprits just water.
No Smoking, Drugs not even a headache tablet.
Lots of rest.
Lay down after inserting the pesseries for 1/2 hour.
Stayed very Postivie......
Keeping fingers crossed.
Love
Wibbs
XXX
Jackie,

YOu are going to be a nervous wreck by the time your 2ww ends!!! CHILL CHICK! I had af pains from the word go, I've still got them! As we have already discussed, I too give Jordan a run for her money and I have to take each boob out of the bra separately on a night because they are soooooooo painful. If anyone so much as looks at them it brings me out in a cold sweat!

All of these things are normal. Just listen to what your body tells you, if you feel tired, have a snooze. I did lots of snoozing. You need to get lots of sleep, so that means going to bed like a normal person!!!!

Keep drinking the water, going to the loo lots and rest and you'll be fine!!

love nikola.xxx
Hi Girlies,
Thanks for all the tips - have them all written down just in case!1 I am already taking Pregnacare supplements plus additional vitamin C and Linseed Oil capsules. Have decided to try acupuncture or reflexology (can't afford both unfortunately!!) but don't know which one to try. There is a clinic in my area (liverpool) which practises both but it is not anything to do with traditional chinese medicine so I am a bit sceptical of having acupuncture ther (or am I just being a bit snobby ?!)

Any experiences from anybody who has had one or the other to help me decide ?????

Lots Of Love

Julie
xx
Hi Julie,
I'm 6 weeks pgt after 9th tmt!
Each time I've done things differently - taken time off work sometimes and not others - +ve on 6th tmt when I went straight back to work after et. Also tried homeopathy, aromatherapy, reiki and acupuncture with initial tmts. I certainly found they relaxed me and helped me cope with tmt but didn't help it work.
This time I have given up alcohol, baths and caffinated tea - I'm on 75mg apsirin to help blood flow, not been at work since started tmt, done no housework, heavy lifting etc and have rested as much as poss.
Also this unit have the bed tipped post et and advise laying down for half an hour after putting in pesaries!
Di
hi all
di - can you tell me what you mean by you have the bed tipped? have you got a retrovert womb?
nikola - anybody - why have my AF pains gone now?left with a few stabbing pains every now and again?
do you think maybe that it has already failed? go on, tell me i am paronoid? o.k. going to bed, had enough worrying all day.
love jackieT xxx
Jackie

Yes you are paronoid, but we are all paronoid during 2ww (except me, cos I didn't think it had worked, so hadn't bothered to worry!!) You KNOW that some girls have no af pains and get pg and then others (like me) have af pains all the time, and others (like you) have af pains on and off and all still go on to get pg. One possible explanation could be that embies implant aroung days 4-6 after ET so you could be feeling implanting pains not af pains!!

Try to relax (read a book or magazine, watch daytime tv, anything....!!) Are you remembering to drink lots of water and SLEEP!! I'm convinced these two things helped work for me. I was very strict with my 8 pints a day and slept in the afternoon (usually around teatime - still do!!) if I felt tired.

You'll be fine. You test the day of my first scan, so lets hope we can both post exciting news!!!

Lots of love
nikola.xxxxxxx
Hi Julie. We had a failed ICSI in March, then a positive in July and am now 16 wks pg with one baby and I thank God for this miracle every single day.

The first time I didnt know what to expect so treated it after as a "trial run". The second time I had heard lots of girls on the board who had taken baby aspirin and were certain it had made a difference.

So, the second time I decided to take it, and the treatment worked. Also, I took showers not baths, no coffee, no alcohol, just tried to take it a bit easy, although went back to work Monday after treatment on friday. Didn't do any lifting heavier than the kettle.

Best of Luck - your PMA will be a huge help to you - keep it up. XXX

Lots of Love - Jo. XXXX

Hi Jackie,
The bed was tipped for half an hour post et as this is the policy of The Park In Nottingham - I must say psychologically it made sense even if the research doesn't back it up!!!
Di
Jackie - your stabbing pains reminded me that when my tmt worked, my AF type pains went and I got sharp stabbing pains which seemed to be in the ovaries at either side. I was getting them even the night b4 testing. Very sharp pains, just like a needle, very low down.

I hope these are a +++++++ sign for you. I didnt get these the first time when the tmt failed.

Keeping everything crossed. Jo. XXXXX
Hello

Can I just ask, is the baby asprin, as you say - baby asprin that can be found in the shops? from the chemists?

I've just finished my first week sniffing - am thinking of getting some, when would be a good time to start taking it? for how long?

thanking you
Lisa x
