Hi everyone,
Haven't been around since last abandoned cycle in July.
Crikey, those hormones really screwed me up and only just feel ready to start again. Starting a short flare protocol at end of October. This is my question....Ist time I was on Puregon which I was able to inject myself. This time the nurse asked if I wanted to try Menogon, she said it did the same job as Puregon but was much cheaper. £400 or so cheaper! I asked why I wasn't offered this before. She said because it has to be injected in the muscle and is much more difficult! So they don't offer it first time as
usually the dh has to be taught how to do it and it is more difficult. Mine could not be taught anyway, he hates needles, poor lamb/soft git and actually fainted in the ACU at the last visit when I was being shown what to do with the Puregon! Needed 3 slices of Jam and toast and 3 cups of hot, very sweet tea to come round...So embarrassing! And he had to lay down on a bed!!!
Seriously, I will need to get my local health centre nurse to do the daily injections, which I would have done anyway were I offered Menogon the first time. Just a thought, any ideas about this?
Also congrats to all who have had success and commiserations to those who have not. It WILL be our turn next...
Love and Luck
Debbie
Leeds

Hi Debbie
sorry I can't really answer your question. I was offered Puregon or Menopur, Menopur being about £500 cheaper, so we chose that. However, it was injected the same into my leg or stomach, so not really sure about Menogon. Where and how would you inject, and how many times a day? would you have to make daily visits to a clinic?

Sorry asking more questions instead of giving answers.
Good luck
Lisa x

Hi Debbie,
One of my tmt's - in fact the NHS funded one I was given Menogon and yes it does need to be into the muscle! But I gave it myself - did have some reservations for the first injection - rang DH at work who told me to just leave it at he'd do it when he came home. And this is from a man whose never held a needle in his life - so I thought BU**ER
that and did it. It defineltly is a bit more sore but not too bad!
Let me know what you decide!
Di
PS - Our poor DH's what they go through - if only we knew the half of it! LOL!!!

Hey Debbie - remember me? We almost cycled together and then you had the treatment stopped and I know how horrible it is cos it happened to me first time. Am 16 wks pg and all going well so far.

Our second treatment with Puregon failed and the next time they offered me Menopur which apparently is a natural hormone as opposed to the puregon which is manufactured. (Menopur is made from old womens wee apparently but dont let that put you off at all!!!) Menopur was a lot cheaper and it worked for us.

We had a much higher dose of 375 which meant injecting 5 vials every day into my stomach - it wasnt too bad at all - the needle is still very thin - I didnt find it much different to the puregon pen but its more fiddly to have to such up the liquid with the larger needle first. I'm not sure if the one you're being offered will work the same way.

Mainly I want to say I'm so glad to see you back in the saddle and will be watching out for you and hoping as hard as I can that this time it's ++++ all the way.

Love from Jo. Hi Jo,
Of course I remember you, am very pleased that all is going well!!
Yup, back and ready to go with a bit more of a positive attitude now. We are having the menopur/menogon ( think they are the same) and have to inject into the bum muscle! Andrew cannot do this, see above re fainting fit!!! so I will get my local nurse at the health centre to do it. As it is so much cheaper I was wondering why it was not offered the first time? Also will be on the highest dose.
How are you feeling? Fit and well I hope, can you see a bump yet? Good to hear from you and keep those positive vibes coming everyone's way.
Love
Debbie
