Nance, my clinic always does 5 day transfers. If they see the embies are dividing and looking good they like to get to them blastocyst stage. My clinic believes that 5 day blastocysts have better chance of surviving transfer and hanging on than the earlier stage ones. I think they like to watch them to see the ones that keep growing and the ones that just stop altogether. Gives them a better chance in picking the "right" ones.
I remember out of my 10 last time, I think 3-4 just stopped growing by day 5. So we knew those wouldn't work or be able to freeze.

The transfer is just uncomfortable because of your full bladder. My clinic requires 30 minutes of lying still in that chair and then you can go pee. I didn't make it last time on my FET. I had to get a bed pan - man I had to pee so bad!! :)
But other than that it is cool to be able to see the little embies. My clinic says they have a new catheter with a better camera so you can see it alot clearer. Can't wait to see that!

Good luck with whatever you decide. I am sure the doctors know best!

Hey, Nance-Like Full of Faith said, I think they are probably making sure they are picking the best embryos. This happened to me too, I was set to go Tues for 2nd day transfer but then they called as we were leaving the house and said that there were no clear leaders of the pack so to speak and had me wait an extra day at which point 3 embies presented themselves as the strongest, best developed, etc. It's great that you have lots that are doing so well!

OK-Jeck, Cmoscar, and Ampmed1 . . . you guys are up next for your tests! I wish all of you BFPs and will be waiting anxiously to hear your news on Monday! I'm living vicariously through the testers right now!

Thank you all ladies once again for your wonderful advice. I don't know what I would do without you. I guess I will just do what my Dr. thinks is best. I trust him and that he has my best interest at heart. I hope they give me valium like some of you lucky ladies had. If not I'll just have my husband entertain me for the hour. Do they let your husband stay with you usually?

Thank you again.

Well my HCG numbers are in and they more than doubled. They are 844 14dp3dt. :-) After that news I allowed myself to get happy and cryied. :-) My Ultrasound is scheduled for Oct. 31. :-)

Nance, if it helps. I went through a military facility that does research. I just found out that the offered two of the other girls 5 day transfers but they did not offer me that option. So the have there reasons for opting for 5 for some and not for others. I only had a small number of eggs and 4 fertilized, so maybe that is why they didn't give me the option. I know the other women that they gave the option to she had 12 fertilized eggs. She had 1 5 day blast transfered and she recieved her BFP today :-) I do know the clinic only considers a single viable pregnancy a true success and multiples only a partial success.

Bec - please try and stay positive and believe that one of your 4 embies will make your dreams come truexxxxx

Lori and Malinka how are you doing?? One minute I'm okay and think one day I will get there and the next minute I'm in tears and keep thinking why me ? What have I done that is so wrong to make me go through this? I'm getting angry and there is a member of my family who got pregnant last year and continued to smoke and drink really heavily throughout her pregnany even after a scare at the 20 wk scan, where they thought something was wrong but she still continued to smoke and drink and not just the odd drink but getting drunk on a regular basis. To the point when she was 38 wks and they took her into hosp cos the baby's heartbeat was irregular then it was okay and they asked if if she had been out for a smoke and she said yes and they said the heartbeat was irregular cos the baby was having nicotine withdrawal!!!!!!! We have to believe that we will get there but on the other hand you really believe it's going to happen and then you get that horrible BFN and a horrendous AF just to remind you that it hasn't happened.

Sorry if I've depressed people, I'm pryaing that you all get your BFP's

Jenn - stay strong and hang on in there the 2ww will soon be over.

Charity - I'm so happy your numbers have doubled that is fab news, enjoy the next 9 months and keep us updated

Take care everyone, lots of love

Haylie - I understand your frustration...all of us here at one point in time have asked ourselves "Why me?" Just remember that you're not alone...

Jenn - I know how you feel! I've had some more cramps today, but they come and go. Jeck mentioned the boob check - yep, I keep doing that too! I also get headaches and I want to eat all of the junk food I can find...but I think these might be side effects from the progesterone shots.

Nance - I was prescribed a valium which they told me to take at 7:30...but then my ET was delayed until 10:30 so it didn't seem very effective at that point. As soon as the embryologist said "All Clear!", out came the spec and they let me sit up and walked me to the bathroom right away. Just about everyone else says they had to lay there for a specific amount of time, so I'm hoping that me hopping right up doesn't effect the outcome. It's just something else for me to worry about over these next 8 days.

I did receive some good news today though. My husband's health insurance will be covering IVF starting next year. So if this one doesn't work, and if my 3 frosties don't make it, we'll be able to try again. Otherwise I'm not sure we would've been able to afford it.

Malinka - what happened? I can't find your post? How did I miss it? I'm so sorry.

Haylie - I'm doing better today. Tues and Wed. were really rough - so many tears. I also say 'why me' all the time so you are not alone. I get so frustrated and angry. Why is life so unfair? Why am I the only person in my group of friends that can't have children? I've had two close friends also do IVF, but they've never had a cycle that didn't work. So, they don't really understand (not to mention they still had friends without kids when they did it). I keep wondering why I am supposed to go through this in my life. What is my lesson? Can't I just learn it and move on? Yesterday, I felt like I would not have the strength to continue, but I am feeling better today and more determined not to give up so easily. It's a long road and I just hope that it eventually takes us to where we want to go. Hugs to you and your DH.

Good Morning Ladies,

Well I went for my transfer and they sent me home. My Dr said that we should wait for day five. Out of my 9 embryo that 7 were "perfect" and he highly suggested to wait until Sunday for transfer. We decided that he is the expert and we would take his suggestion. I just wish it was over with but want to do whatever gives us the best shot.

I hope everyone is well.

Talk to you later.

Nance - The doctor is right. If you have 7 perfect embies, wait and make sure you get the best ones for the transfer. In fact, 5-day transfers have much higher sucess rates. They will come home so enough and then you will be on the dreaded 2ww. Good luck!
