Failed 1st IVF

Post by Emme35 »

I'm new to this forum and I just finished my first IVF teatment. I was on a low dose of Puregon originally as my DR was worried about over stimulation. My estrogen was low on day 3 of testing so they increased my dose by 4x. I produced many follicles after that, but only 2 mature eggs. Only one egg fertilized and we found out on day 3 that the egg was not viable, it only reached a 4 cell stage so we never reached the transfer stage.

We are going to try again, but on a more aggressive program right from the start.

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar results and if they were able to turn it around with a more aggressive 2nd treatment?

I also failed my first IVF, but after transfer. It was pretty clear from the beginning that it wasn't going to happen, though. We retrieved 17 eggs and only one progressed to the blastocyst stage for a 5 day transfer. We waited it out, but the test was negative. I actually just finished my 2nd cycle and am in my 2ww. They kept my meds the same and just adjusted them as my blood tests required. I produced over 20 follicles, but only got 4 eggs. Luckily, 3 of them progressed to 8-cell and were perfect quality. We transferred on 10/9. I have to say that the same meds affected me totally different this time and I think you could do the same meds and end up with completely different results, rather than over stimulating and possibly hurting you physically! Good Luck!

Thanks Shellee,

That makes me feel a lot better, I was worried that I would never produce many eggs and it was so disappointing to go so far and not make it to transfer, when I found out they were only able to retrieve 2 eggs I was really worried. My Dr said that the first few days of stimulation are the most important for egg development and he thinks that because my estrogen levels were so low on that first blood test after starting stims that may be why only two eggs developed, even though they increased my levels in response. It sounds like it's better to have to lower levels after the first few days rather than increase. I guess each cycle will be different so we will just hope for the best the 2nd time around - I'm starting again in November.
