egg collection and transfer

Post by bekkie31 »

For my egg collection this Wednesday I have to be completely put to sleep. I guess this normal? If so, what is it like? what should I expect?

My transfer is on Friday.. what is to be advised (of course I will ask my doctor too ) .. I presume to walk about is ok? I will be written off sick as my job involves getting up at 3.00am, cycling in the cold and then working a 10 hour day. What should I do in the time I am at home?. I guess that the eggs will not come out of me if I walk about? I know it seems a silly question..

Bekki -- WELCOME and your questions are not silly!! I had my egg collection this morning for the first time. I had never been put under so it was a whole new experience for me too. It really was simply. They explained the proceedure, gave me an IV and poof next thing I knew my DH was saying my name and talking to me to wake me up. Since coming home I have had cramping that is uncomfortable however my RE said it should be gone within 24 hours. As far as the ET I have no idea what to expect other than it will be similiar to the trail transfer. I hope some of this helps and I wish you the best of luck with your cycle.
Jill

well the Choragon shot was ok - in the tummy. I just feel nervous or more rather paranoid that I may ovulate before the egg collection date tomorrow - but I have been reading and they say it is normally around 36 hours after the choragon shot that egg collection is done. Initially I was worried it was too long and I may ovulate before.

Just not looking forward to being given the anaesthetic.

I have the same fears about ovulation as I usually ovulate early and they stared my shots two days later because their machines were not reading my blood correctly. I only have four eggs and don't want anything to happen to them.

I hear the egg collection is a breeze although you may have cramping afterward. How many eggs do they see?

BEST OF LUCK. Let us know how it goes!!!

Not actually sure how many - I had a scan on Friday 13th (of all days friday the 13th !!! ) and he said it all looked good, and that was without the right ovary having reacted so well. It seems the left side has the most. I have only had one scn throughout the whole process - no blood tests nothing - but he seems an experienced doctor. i just pray to god I have not already ovulated.. tomorrow i will know more. I doubt i will sleep tonight... all these questions buzzing around in my head.

Hi Bekkie

Good luck for tomorrow. You will be fine. The people in theatre are all really nice, they make jokes to try and relax you although I did tell them I knew their game plan! I didn't know I was going to have a general until I got there. It said you will be sedated but didn't realise that meant being asleep! I remember waking up moaning that they'd woken me as I was on the beach! After I had eaten and had a drink I was allowed to go home, think it was about an hour or so after.

I felt very bloated for a while. I was also constipated which isn't particlarly comfortable.

For ET that is painless. Well I say painless for me it was the full bladder which hurt! Make sure you drink loads and loads, I drank what I was told in the time I was told but still had to wait another 3 hours as it wasn't ready (the bladder), for me that hurt. I had to lay on the bed for 20 minutes afterwards but only made it to 12 as I was going to wet myself!

The journey home after ET was during rush hour, I had to stand on the tube and the train for about an hour and a half.

I was the one who had never done as well as they would have liked. I didn't get as many foliciles as they wanted, there was 3 on the left and 4 on the right. I had to take my injections for a couple of days longer than the norm as they weren't as big as they would have liked. They only got 8 eggs, 5 fertlised and I had two put back. One is now doing very well and jumping about as I type!

You are going to feel all aches and cramps during your two week wait. Your ovaries are going to be very swollen that's why you will cramp. All the af and pregnancy symptoms you will feel will probably just be from the progestone pessaries or shots.

I relaxed for the first two days then just did light activities until I was so bored I went for some retail therapy for three days on the trot!

Although it sounds crazy I would speak to my embryos. I thought positively all the way through even though in the back of my mind I was sure it wouldn't work.

My clinic ask you to do a HPT at 16 days post transfer and if that's positive you go in for the beta, those 16 days took ages, especially on here when some ladies have to go for blood work at 9/10 days past. I started testing on day 7 (I bought a cheap batch HPT's off Ebay), I didn't get the faint line until day 10. I would try and avoid them though if you can. Some ladies on here even do them on the day of their test and it's negative then go in for blood and it's positive.

Even after my positive I still got cramps, it takes a good few weeks for everything to go back to normal. I still get them now though it's my uterus expanding to accommodate my growing baby.

Best of luck to you. I hope everything goes smoothly. Easier said than done but try and remain positive and avoid stress.

Keeping everything crossed for you.

Jo

Jo thanks for your post!!!

I actually work for eBay, honest!! In the Trust and Safety department. I am based in Berlin, Germany and kind od work against internet Fraud for the EU countries.

All of what you said sounds good - was it your first try at IVF that you got pregnant?

The only worry is having ovulated in the time between the Choragon shot which I had last night and the egg retrieval which I have tomorrow at 08.15am. I hve done heaps of reading and they say it is normal to have egg retrieval around 34-36 hours ofter the hcg shot. i am just panicking I have ovulated already!!
Thanks all the same for the infos and wishing me luck - i am like you, thinking positive but always having in the back of my mind it will fail..

lol I love Ebay! I got 10 strip tests for only £3, because they said positive I thought maybe it was a duff batch so I bought some "proper" ones from the shop, I tested about 16 times in total and they were all positive!

Yes it was our first attempt. We said we would try twice but luckily we didn't have to. We were so so lucky. I always thought it rarely works first time but so many women on here are successful first time.

I was watching test tube babies on Discovery Health the other night and there was a couple who ovulated before EC (from what I remember there is a 1% chance that you might), they still managed to get 5 eggs from her. So stop worrying and start thinking of your eggs fertlising then snuggling down for 9 months!

Let us know how you get on.

Bekki
I just went to my Dr. for blood work and sono. They still think they will take them (only4) on Thursday. I told them that I (we) was worried that I would ovulate before then and the Dr. kind of chuckled and said that, with the medication, they are in complete control of the eggs and what they do and that "pre-ovulation" would never occur!

Good News! Get some sleep tonight and check in when it's over!!!
