Attempt low sperm count treatment or go straight to IUI???

Post by ginatet »

Hi,

I'm new to this message board or any message board for that matter. I just feel like I want to talk to others who have problems similar to mine. It's not exactly something that you can easily talk to your friends and family about. Anyhow, we recently found out that my DH has a very low sperm count, the Dr. said it's 2M. My DH had an exam with a Urologist and everything looked fine there. The Urologist wants him to do 3 more samples just to make sure. We're thinking that the Dr. wants to do 2 samples now, each a month apart, then if those are bad, medication after that, then another test to see if it's working. I talked to my OBGYN about all of this and the fact that we've been trying for a year now already. I'm worried that after all this testing and fertility medication and more testing just to SEE if there's a problem may take years and of course a lot of money. I had a visit with my OBGYN today and I kinda broke down. He knows I'm just really upset about all of this and he said that if we chose, we can just go straight to artificial insemination if we would like. I'm wondering if this might be the better way to go. My insurance will cover it. My Dr. said that with my DH's very low count and even with fertility medication, the count really won't go up dramatically anyways. With other people's experience, what would you think would be the best approach?

Thanks!

Gina

hi gina, my advice is tp go ahead with the iui so you don"t have to waste precious time and u said u already have been trying for a yr. it only takes one sperm to fertilize the egg so u have a better chance with giving the spermies a boost into your uterus.

skip sperm count drugs

Post by riesmom »

I am VERY NEW to this board--but I would skip the attempts to increase DH count. I am 3 days post IUI. Husband had Low count --2mil and less on three counts. Ob/gyn and urologist said that meds to increase count might raise count SLIGHTLY but not enough to increase our preg chances to concieve # 2. So we went straight to IUI. Our insurance doesn't cover any of it--so Drs wanted to "speed" thru the process to help with finances. Hope this helps you.

Hi there! We are pretty much close in our cycles. I had IUI on the 16th, which makes me 4 days post IUI. I have one tube left that was repaired via lap. last month. DH's count was normal. When do you get your blood test? I have mine scheduled on 11/5 and progesterone test on Monday 23rd. Good luck to you and I hope this works for us. God bless!

Hello

I hope you don't mind me contacting you like this. I'm a writer and am writing an article about men who are desperate to be fathers, but for different reasons have yet to have children. For example, I have spoken to men who's wives have fertility problems, but I would like to speak to a man who has fertility problems.
If you think your husband would be interested in speaking to me-a fee is available for his time and trouble-please contact me on eimear.o'hagan@dailymail.co.uk

Thank you.
