To flu shot or not to flu shot

Post by Luchia »

That is the question....

Did you or are you going to have the flu shot?

I'm so worried... With all these babies being born with food allergies it makes you wonder what the heck is doing it.

I don't remember the flu shot being pushed so much 10-15 years ago and the rise in food allergies has gone off the charts over that time.

What are your thoughts?

I got the shot. Only because I went to a specialist because I am expecting twins. They highly recommended it for pregnant women. I had never heard of the food allergy thing. I will ask my obgyn when I go next week.

Hello,

I'm diabetic and always have it. This year I went to have it and the nurse wouldn't because I'm pregnant. I also checked with my doctor, the midwife and my diabetic team and they have all said no while I'm pregnant.

Isn't it funny how it differs depending where are you! I too have never heard of the food allergy thing.

Ladies,

My OB doctor told me that I should get the flu shot, that it was recommended for pregnant women. It must be a US/UK thing.

apparently it was on GMTV (television programme) yesterday morning that they are going to introduce the flu jab for pregnant women. I have phoned my doctors again today, they have checked the "green book" and spoken to the pharmacuitical company and I can have it - going in tomorrow morning to be stabbed!

They say you have to be over 12 weeks pregnant to have it and I'm only getting it because of my diabetes and not the pregnancy!

My Ob says they recommend it for pregos (im in the US), but I'm scared. However, if you read an article in this months Prevention Magazine - you can read it online too- they have been doing preliminary studies of women who were pregnant in the 60's and 70's who had the flu while pregnant and are finding that their children had higher incidences of scitzophrenia (sp?). I'm still not sure what to do. I have until Nov 16th to decide when my work is giving the shots.

There was an article in the Mail the other day saying that if you get flu while you are pregnant your baby has a doubled risk of getting childhood leukemia. i think that is the reason they are going to give the injection to pregnant women, but not until next winter.

There are signs all over my OB/GYN office that say if you are due during flu season to definitely have the shot...
