IVF in Thailand

Post by Curmudgeon »

Hi All,

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Thailand to undergo IVF and we wanted to share our experience. We used Synphaet Hospital and highly recommend it. The staff was very professional and friendly. They spoke english which was a plus for me as my Thai language skills leave a lot to be desired.

My wife traveled to Thailand the end of September to meet the doctor and set it up. I followed her a couple weeks later once we had a schedule set.

We had to use a donor for the eggs for a couple reasons. A fertility specialist in the US told us that our chances were a lot better because of my wife's age. We are both over forty. The other reason was that my wife underwent surgery to remove a cyst after the initial examination. She was told by the doctor that the surgery may not be neccessary, but we wanted to hedge our bet so we had it performed. The surgery was minimally invasive so we were able to proceed with the IVF.

The donor in our case was a niece that volunteered. The hospital told us they could make arrangements for a donor if need be, but we prefered using a family member.

I returned to the US ten days after the transfer. My wife remained another month in case we needed to try again. We didn't. Three days after I got back home, she found out that she was pregnant; two weeks later we found out it was twins. To soon to tell the sexes, but I'm betting on girls. Both our families run long on girls.

I don't want to write a book on this because I'm not sure how many are interested in traveling that far. But if anyone is interested, the costs are considerably lower even with the airfare. We would have been hard pressed to afford this in the US and we certainly couldn't have done it twice.

If anyone would like more information, please let us know.

Good luck to all of you.
